One of my favourite Star Trek episodes. Which actress today can be smart, sexy and funny (excluding Madonna, of course) without labouring.

Actually only Americans drop the 'u'. English is spoken in a few countries and after all it is the, uh, correct English spelling. It's hard to mispell words on poirpoise or listen to someone say Dubois as Do-Boyz.

    Wow, great interview.
I usually can't stand the actors interviews, cause they're so guarded and humorless and on junkets doing a hundred interviews on a soulless project they couldn't care less about, but this was a fabulous interview.

She was candid and funny and candid. This was a great read.

Mr. O'Neal, I'm truly jealous that you got to talk to Teri Garr.

This was a particularly good one, but I'm often surprised how the interviewers here get beneath the layers of carefully crafted BS personas of celebrities.

How could you not cover her role as the "long suffering" wife in "Let it Ride"?

That movie redefined how I thought about movies in which a compulsive gambler goes to the track and has one good day and ends up winning back the love of his wife by doing all the things that caused him to lose her love previously.

Also, the guy who played Roman Maroni in "Johnny Dangerously" was in it.

Let me add to the clamour to hear from
the hairy scar of Teri Garr.

But I found her non-entertaining, and well, arrogant.

Do I need to read this again?

God, blurst, how racist can you be?

SMBIKA, I'm very sorry you lack the context to find Terri Garr hilarious and refreshingly well-adjusted. Explaining it would take entirely too much time.

Also, read the interview again - enjoyed much more - she is a spectacular lady.

      Thanks, AV Clubbers.

    Terri Garr = awesome
I have to agree with the many positive comments regarding this interview. She's so candid that it's hilarious. I wish all of your interview subjects were so open and warm. I also love that she's at the point in her life where she has no qualms about calling people like Dustin Hoffman and Francis Ford Coppola on their bullshit. I love her I love her I love her.

Now if only she would have called Robin Williams on his unfunny bullshit…alas, that might have been too much goodness.

I love me some Teri Garr.

    I've always
registered Ms. Garr as a one-note performer (and an object of fantasy in my youth), and it's neat to see years of pent-up rage over underwritten parts spill out in half-comedic, half-self-conscious mode. She obviously needs to talk about it, and do something with it.

She should at least guest star on 30 Rock immediately, duplicating the Carrie Fisher role in actress form. The idea that the sexpot of Young Frankenstein is pissed off about decades of fucked-up Hollywood gender roles is, you know, a whole plotline in itself.

(I would have liked to hear whether she likes Short Time.)

I dunno about Garr as being a one-note performer, but I would like to see her guest star on 30 Rock. I'd like to see her as one of Jack's youthful indiscretions. Their scenes together would be great.

I happen to think the idea that she is some kind of parent to what Lisa Kudrow has done is no insult to anyone. Teri Garr is evidently as brilliant as I always hoped she was.

I think there was some logic in casting TG as LK's mom, in that the Pheobe character and TG's persona were both sort of based around the "ditzy" blonde who was a lot smarter than everyone else around them.

Also, as I recall, TV Guide originally suggested TG as Pheobe's mom, and then the show later cast her as such, so it's not like it came out of the clear blue sky.

    Not a ditz
I've had the hots for Terri Garr ever since Young Frankenstein. But I never really saw her characters as ditzy (except maybe in Young Frankenstein and After Hours) or a doormat, just a very cute and sexy girl next door with a complicated life going on just under the surface. There's no question though that it was her own personality and talent that added so much more dimension to those characters and made them so memorable.

When I was younger and would watch her in movies I would think, "I wish I had a girlfirend just like Terri Garr." It was really nice to hear someone be open and honest in one of these interviews, and especially nice to hear her stand up straight on the issue of sexism and call it the way she sees it. She gives blondes a good name.
