What does it take for it to be unjustified? Video proving a coverup, like in the Laquan McDonald case?

A few weeks after 12-year-old Tamir Rice was murdered in a park in Cleveland, police in the San Diego area had to respond to a 50-something man, drunk and belligerent, who was brandishing a nice, shiny 9mm pistol in a park. The cops spent 20 minutes pleading with the man to put his weapon down. When it became clear that he wasn’t going to obey them, they shot him.

    In the leg.

    He was white.

The video says that they “pulled out all stops.” Apparently pull out all stops doesn’t mean take their time. Apparently 10 minutes is the most time cops are willing to put into not killing you.

Another question, why the entire fuck did this center call the cops on the boy for showing the fuck up in the first place?

      I can’t stand these people.

I mean, that last line wasn’t even necessary, but I guess you must write it for people who wish to be willfully obtuse.

To the inevitable “whitesplaining” of why this particular incident was “justified,” I submit this rebuttal:

As part of my law enforcement duties as a military service member, I’ve had guns pointed at me by people whose intentions were, at best, questionable (ranging from “testing my unit’s resolve” to “suicidal”). Yet, thanks to my training (and refresher training, as well as “fitness for duty” screenings at no less frequency than an annual basis), I’ve been able to successfully ”de-escalate” all of those situations without discharging my own firearm.

Proper “escalation of force” techniques could have ended this incident without Aries’ death. Yeah, that may sound like “armchair quarterbacking,” but as have been proven time and time again, white armed suspects have been given much longer “leashes” than ten fucking minutes to either surrender their firearms or to be disarmed by non-lethal means.

Even after they’ve already killed someone.

Even after they’ve already killed COPS.

    Come at me, bros...

Would you say you’ve received far more training than the average cop? If I recall correctly it takes more hours to become a barber in a bunch of states than a cop. There isn’t really a justification for the number of people shot by the cops, but if we are going to focus on solutions to some extent, maybe not taking any schlub off the street who can pass a basic fitness/mental eval and barely training them should be an initiative.

Speaking as a former Soldier who now works closely with law enforcement, I won’t say FredCee is lying, but I can definitely state that his experiences are not typical for the military. If he was “Master at Arms” (the closest thing the Navy has to law enforcement) his training was only 9 weeks. Police recieve closer to 20 weeks.

We were taught not to point a weapon at something you’re not planning to kill, and we expect the same of our “adversaries”. If someone aims in the direction of a fellow service member, they’re getting shot, and more than likely killed.

That being said, cops shouldn’t be treating the people they’re paid to protect as adversaries. I wholeheartedly believe that law enforcement training is not the issue. The problem is the culture. All the training in the world doesn’t help when you’re surrounded by corruption the second you walk into work.

But in this specific case, you really don’t think this shooting was justified? BB guns are made to look just like a real gun.

I can’t find it mentioned anywhere, did he eventually raise the BB gun towards the cops? Or was he standing with the gun pointed down when they shot him?

Not trying to justify anything with the question, I just know there is no way the prosecutor could get a good case if he was shown pointing the BB gun at the cops.

I am surprised if they thought this was a suicide, one of them didn’t attempt to approach him closer, while covered by their partners.

It ain’t that serious, man. We got kids, man. You’re somebody’s kid, man. We don’t want to do this,” one officer could be heard saying. “We can talk about this but you have to put the gun down. Just put the gun down, walk away, we’ll put ours down and we can talk.

    Sigh. . . Fuck
