    This brings back some memories. Now, I was never on this level as a jumper but we used to get the clothesline out and go at it back in the day. I can see why it’s declining these days because people don’t go outside to play these days.

      My bff is trying to Double Dutch in her skates! She’s been trying to get other skaters who like doing tricks to try it as well but so far few were willing to try. I can’t even jump in in my sneakers!

      Your BFF is crazy! LOL I haven’t jumped in years but even then at my boldest I would not make any attempt in skates. Then again I can’t do much but skate forward and keep from falling. (Sometimes not even that.)

      I would watch those tricks being done if she pulls it off though.

    I jumped double dutch in grade school but strictly basic and I was not even good at that. No one in my school jumped like these kids and the competitive jumping is on beyond spectacular, so acrobatic and athletic. I wish I could go to this, it looks so fun.

      Jump roping was huge at my upper-midwestern elementary school in the 80's, and though we attempted Double Dutch all of the time, we SUCKED at it. I do remember seeing girls in NYC doing it on TV (I swear it was on Sesame Street or Reading Rainbow, or some other PBS show) and being totally awed by it. So I’m pretty excited to see that it’s making a comeback (I will not be attempting it myself this time, though.)

    I don’t know why but this made me teary. It’s nice to see some recognition and pride of our culture. Being born in the 60's and growing up in the 70's and 80's in a white suburb, I didn’t see a much in the way of representation of us. It just makes me happy I guess. Thanks Danielle.

    I was always so bad at jump rope, and WAY too scared to hop into the churning whips of TWO ropes at once. Mad respect to double-dutch jumpers.
