Two months ago I had a nice apartment in Chicago. I had a good job. I had a son. When something happened to the Negroes in the South I said, `That’s their business, not mine.’ Now I know how wrong. I was. The murder of my son has shown me that what happens to any of us, anywhere in the world, had better be the business of us all.

Sadly, I am sure that not too far in the future The Root will be featuring an article about how this same memorial has been vandalized, as the others have been in the past.

As stated in the article, nothing has changed at this point, so its what I expect.

I hope they at least have some surveillance on the site.

“Where are the police and politicians tonight?” he said. “If they cared about the community, about making a difference, they would be here with us. They’re a part of this, too.”

In a tragedy that defined Ferguson, the absence of these groups continues to remind us what we already know. I hope that Ferguson, that all of us, will always remember Michael Brown. But more than just his memory, I hope that we continue to honor his life by pushing and fighting back and stopping this.
