Shanice was too saccharin for my tastes but it’s disheartening to hear of her struggles given the amount of talent she has. Even moreso when you hold her talent up to her current day would-be contemporaries like Taylor Swift, if she had been born around the same time.
But she’s another example (among many) in a long line of them of the music industry perpetuates racism and uses it to determine what talents rise and fall. At any given time, there can only be one or two “top” black (or any POC) artists that go mainstream while there are no bounds, talented or not, for white artists.
