Obamacare has issues, but it’s time to admit he shifted the focus and importance of healthcare in this country and give him some credit. I thought he could have done a better job of rolling it out and dismissing some of the nonsense (death panels) around the bill.

GOP needs to let go of this “overturn anything Obama” mentality and meet Dems halfway on certain points.

Trump said on 60 minutes he would keep some of the provisions in the ACA. If he really wants to do something presidential he’d step in help mold something bipartisan. The problem is he has no idea how any of this shit works and Mr. Art of the Deal is too concerned with the name associated with healthcare instead of what it actually does for people. The most anti-swamp thing to do would be taking bits of both sides and crafting something successful.

Oh don’t worry, it’s already happening, one of my few remaining conservafriends on FB is whining about “Democrats not willing to work with Republicans,” as if it’s the Dem’s fault for not willingly going along with the destruction of a Democratic ideological cornerstone

McConnell’s repeal only idea was killed in its crib before lunchtime today. These assholes made a spectacle out of repealing ACA, literally, dozens of times when Obama was in office and now we see those efforts for what they were, performance art meant to enhance their odds at the ballot box. So whats their plan now? Straight up sabotage. Withold CSR payments and hope the exchanges collapse.

The plan now seems to be somehow continue to blame Democrats for everything and hope enough of the electorate is too stupid to see through the bullshit.

Spot on. McConnell himself has stated his number one priority was to foil Obama. Not to further the country or its citizens in anyway — just to derail the President of our country by any means necessary. After 7 years of tantrums the Republicans seem to have forgotten how to do anything else — policy making, coalition building, basic governing. And now they’re just going to starve it of funding until is breaks and then say it was bound to fail.

The Republican “no” voters want all the Obamacare taxes repealed AND for everyone’s premiums to go down. How they expect to accomplish this is still a mystery.

      No.

They want taxes repealed and......whatever it is that will get them votes next go-round. Premiums to go down? Oh, sure, we’ll promise that premiums will go down. Why not?

Spoiler alert: they don’t care if premiums go up, down, or sideways as long as they can blame shit on the Dems.

The central problem for Republicans is that as a party they simply don’t agree that affordable healthcare is a right. A large number of them would just let people fend for themselves and die if they aren’t healthy or well off enough (those conditions are generally a result of moral shortcomings in their minds, so who cares about those people?). Thing is, even many people in their voter base who screamed up and down about how Obamacare was evil and lynched him in effigy have been successfully convinced by its existence that affordable healthcare is a right and they don’t want to go back to the way things used to be.

Some Republicans understand this, but short of working with Democrats to strengthen Obamacare, which they won’t do for political reasons, there’s not much hope for reason

They just keep hitting the same wall, which is that people didn’t hate Obamacare because they want worse healthcare. Like everyone who wants Obamacare repealed thinks they will benefit from that, and that’s where the Republicans are getting stuck. They keep not making it have any benefits and being like hmmmm will people notice....

For all his faults, the subconscious mouth vomiting that was Trump promising better healthcare is what those congressional Republicans are suffering under. They are terrified to lose his base. The moderate ones trying to protect healthcare access are really trying to get the best of both worlds. Trump fucked up their message - that people don’t deserve healthcare, that it’s not a right, that only lazy assholes want government involved in healthcare. Trump promised them improvement. Now he didn’t know what the fuck he was saying but they clung to it.

My ultimate hope is that Congressional Republicans get sick of this circus and abandon Trump, and then his base abandons congressional Republicans.

And the best part? Even though they’ve been blatantly neglecting their duty for the better part of a decade, even though they can’t pass shit right even while controlling all three branches of government and the majority of statehouses, and even though they’re supporting a fascist Russian-leveraged twit who’s the single greatest threat to American democracy we’ve seen in our lifetimes who can’t go 48 hours without sabotaging his own fucking agenda, their voters—who are largely made up of the very people most hurt by the GOP’s proposals—-won’t punish them in the least.

    America!

(At this point, I’ve taken to randomly saying “America!” after summarizing awful shit going on in this country. It’s kind of like the old “the aristocrats!” joke, except devastatingly depressing.)

From what I understand, it was the “and Replace” bill that would have cost 23 million people their coverage. “Repeal Only”, by the numbers the CBO came up with back in 2015, would actually mean upwards of 30 million people would lose coverage within a decade.

Premiums would also be expected to fully double in that timeframe.

The thing that kills me is that the AHCA was the early 90's GOP healthcare plan with some Medicare stuff tacked on. The only reason the GOP was against it was because Obama wanted it. They said all this stuff to rally their individual bases and get reelected and continue to ineffectively rage against the machine, but then Trump won and all their plans got shot. In the foot. By themselves.

Sorry, but, you mean the ACA. The AHCA is what they were trying to pass over the past six months. Dead on otherwise.

Doctors go back to putting leeches on the stomachs of wayward women during their menses.

Considering most of the world’s medicinal supply of leeches comes from Russia, maybe this is what Dipshit Jr was meeting about?
