They really should list that shit as a carcinogen. Someone who smokes 4 cigarettes a day would probably live longer than someone who drinks 4 sodas

As the report notes, obesity, hypertension, diabetes and other ailments affect more people of color than their white counterparts. Those communities also consume more soda and are more exposed to advertising about soda.

As well as being far more likely to live in a “food desert.” Better daily access to quality food seems essential.

This could provide an interesting test of religious freedom. Can black pastors do and say things that a powerful interest opposes?

It’s cute that they’ve made this attempt.

    But as per usual:

    1) Corporations don’t care. Didn’t before, won’t start now

    2) Even if Coke does go along with this, they’d just as quickly run ads about their healthier products to prove a point.

    3) They’d also make more of a case that Black communities live in food oasises and that would be more to blame than Coke products.

If we’re going to be honest, this only gets better if poor people make better decisions. But poor people need options and the education to even know such options exist first.

I agree with you, but it’s really not just the poor people with improper nutrition education. I’m not saying people aren’t smart enough, but the food industry spends billions of dollars advertising junk food and misleading the public.

For example, people thought whole wheat bread is vastly better for you than white bread, but they both have the same glycemic index, which is deceiving to diabetics.

Overall, everyone can benefit from food education.

You’re right. Despite it being overwhelming obvious the poor are hurt the most by these actions, it indeed goes beyond class. These corporations do spend billions of dollars to make their products look cool while emphasizing that there’s nothing to worry about, when there actually is.
