You’d think he’d focus more on opiates/heroin, but for some reason he’s pretty fixated on the marijuana. This is all reminiscent of Nixon’s War on Hippies/Marijuana.

So many people smoke marijuana that keeping it illegal becomes a simple, easy-to-implement way of criminalizing any part of the population you wish to oppress. Simple three step plan:

      1) Increase sentencing for marijuana crimes.
      2) Increase policing in black neighborhoods.
      3) Strip voting rights from blacks when they are convicted.

Even someone as stupid as Sessions can implement something THAT simple....

This is why I kept saying for the past year+ that the VAST MAJORITY of people supporting Trump were just closet racists hoping for exactly this kind of outcome. So much easier for an uneducated white man to get a job when blacks and Hispanics literally aren’t under consideration for hiring due to their criminal record and/or the general fear of the public of the ‘dark skinned thugs’...

I don’t disagree that this fits with Sessions’ retrograde thinking, but since whites (and not just the hippies anymore) use marijuana at the same rates as everyone else, they’d get caught up in this as well. Also, many of the states where its been legalized (for medical or recreational purposes) are right-leaning or “purple” states: like Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, North Dakota, Arkansas, Louisiana, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania & Alaska. Some of these states that Trump won, voted to legalize marijuana in that same election.

I don’t think that most Trump voters were actually thinking that much about the mechanics of how they were going to get jobs over blacks and latinxs, or that they’re necessarily racists (most of the Trump supporters I know really aren’t racists, they’re just brimming with a lot of misplaced hope about how great a job he was going to do, for no other reason than because he said so—and they really hated Hillary). I think that he just spoke to white people directly, in a way that other politicians haven’t, and told them that he was going to look out for them (even though there are facts and statistics that show that white people are still doing better than everyone else, even if not as well as they used to on an absolute basis). And they took Trump at his word, because he’s a “self-made” real-estate billionaire and all-around “successful guy” (I mean, just look at all of that gold!) whose father just happened to be a real estate multi-multi-millionaire.

I can see Sessions trying to do something like this, but in doing so he’d face a lot of flak from his own party, especially those that represent states that have legalized it in some form, as well as the dems who are opposed to more criminalization and incarceration. Big business may now be too involved with the burgeoning legal marijuana business (I’m sure Koch Industries is involved somehow) and most elected representatives aren’t going to risk getting primaried over something like this. And it’s going to be hard to convince many people that marijuana is a bigger issue than opiates. Besides, he’s still got this whole Russia mess to deal with.

There are many polaroids (I’m old) of me smoking a joint while wearing a D.A.R.E shirt.

I was in D.A.R.E, and I remember not a single thing about it. That’s how effective that crap was. But yes, let’s bring back that waste of a program!

I remember doing it. It sucked. Therefore, Keebler would like to bring it back.

It’s also ineffective because it basically lies. When you make drinking, tobacco, and pot out to be as bad as crystal meth and heroin you are going to run into problems. Because kids are either going to try those things, or see others try those things, and when they realized that Officer Do-Good lied to them about the effects of pot, they are going to assume the whole thing is a lie. The actual solution (telling the truth: pot and booze aren’t going to ruin your life when used in moderation, crystal meth is always a bad idea) isn’t popular because no one wants their kid being told “Eh, drinking isn’t that bad if you act safely” EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT IS TRUE.

It’s the same with those weird, abstinence-only sex ed classes. Once kids realize that having sex won’t result in instant, late-stage syphilis (they might not even get pregnant!) they think that there are NO dangers to having sex and act unsafely.

My after school programs did a much better job of keeping me away from drugs than DARE. Demonizing drugs can only get you so far, and kids need to have better things to do. Of course, as a Republican, Jeff Sessions knows that funding after school activities is basically one step closer to turning us into communists, and it’s worse than being a dopehead!

Most studies have shown that extracurricular activities are a good deference to teen drug use. DARE doesn’t work.

And the GOP defunds support for extracurricular activities and wants to fund DARE again...

“In recent years, people have not paid much attention to that message, but they are ready to hear it again.”

The fact that Mr. Holy-Shit-He-Really-DOES-Look-Like-Granny-From-That-Stupid-Hillbilly-Show says this in a time when more and more of the country is legalizing marijuana use shows just how fucking clueless and out-of-touch he is with the state of the nation overall, which is dangerous because he’s supposed to be the person who helps ensure that the law is a set of living, changing ideas based upon the growth and maturity of the country.

But what am I expecting? This whole shitstain of an administration is a bizarre amalgamation of a naïve, childish exercise in remembering life through a Norman Rockwellian filter, a frathouse sense of oversexualized assertion of male dominance, and good old fashioned racism.

Wrong, KKKeebler. Drug use is on the decline, especially among teenagers and young adults. Or maybe you’re right and people finally stopped listening to the deeply ineffectual DARE program, and as a result aren’t using as much.

Take this shit to the hollers of Kentucky or something. Black communities are already overpoliced.
