“Building the wall IS NOT RACIST!!!! Stupid, cowardly people. Good grief,” wrote one person.

    Fuck that noise.

“last time i checked this was america. we give people the right to burn our flags, protest by stopping traffic on busy highways, but don’t allow someone to put three words in a yearbook that really don’t mean anything? give me an fing break. that school violated her civil liberties,” wrote another.

    1. The flag ain’t shit.
    2. Better stopped traffic than our stopped hearts.
    3. “Don’t mean anything”? Tell that to the immigrants with no criminal record being detained in front of their children.
    4. I hope you said that same “civil liberties” shit when the NFL blackballed Colin Kaepernick. They lost a damn yearbook (and will be refunded). Others have lost their lives for less.

Nothing but deplorables all the way around.

The flag ain’t shit? Fuck that noise. I have relatives that died fighting Nazis under that flag. So you’ll forgive me if I do not agree.

That cartoon is often relevant, but not here. Public schools are part of the government, but the Supreme Court has found that students don’t actually have full civil rights, and that their speech can be abridged.

Yeah but no one was arrested. The school just decided not to endorce a version of the yearbook with that phrase.

I personally don’t have a problem with this. If this young lady wants to be remembered at every high school reunion as the “build the wall” girl and have to explain her support for the absolute train wreck that the Trump Administration will end up being I really don’t care. It’s like that horrendous hair style or your choice of fashion in your year book pic. You think it’s cool and edgy but 10 years from now you will ask yourself “What the fuck was I thinking?”.

Send the bill to the twit with the quote. She’ll learn.

What? She doesn’t have the money? Oh well.

I think the quote should be left right where it is. Maybe we’d be closer to successfully dealing with racism if it hadn’t been historically (more recently) “cleaned up”. The most dangerous people to poc’s are the ones who write something harmless in the yearbook, but hate “darkies” at home. Many of them go on to be successful & end up mysteriously deciding that no brown person who applied to their company is qualified. When they’re allowed to freely publicize the truth of who they are, the evidence will be there for those who might need it later. If I had that yearbook, if keep it.

That’s true too. I actually have no problem with that. But since the school seems to be going to the truoble of sending it back and you know the publisher will not make the correction for free I see no reason not to charge the little snowflake for the changes.

      *Approaches word “wypipo” suspiciously*

*Rolls up sleeves of cardigan whitely and attempts to grasp the word*

*Yowls in pain, retreats under the couch and remains there for 45 minutes growling and hissing angrily*

If someone’s quote is to build that wall they’re saying/writing it to make a point. That point is to piss people (minorities) off. The whole idea behind the wall isn’t security, it’s to keep Mexicans out. The theme of the quote and the idea of it is racist.

If someone chose a Hitler or Stalin quote would that be allowed?

If the quote was anti-religion I bet you these same “don’t prohibit my free speech” people would be totally for throwing the kid out of school and republishing the yearbook.

Giving high school kids the opportunity to quote things is dumb because they’re all assholes. It’s not their fault, just the way it is.

I just wonder why they didn’t have an editor there to catch it before it went to print to save themselves thousands of dollars.

As someone who did six semesters of Publications/Yearbook in high school, my guess is one of the following:

      1. The editors are morons
      2. The editors wanted to take it out, but were shot down by higher-ups
      3. The editors agree with the quote and the shit behind it and see no problem with it.

Growing up near the county where this happened, I’d put good money on it being option 3.

Ah teenagers, so ignorant of the world I remember when I was one. However even as a teen (when I was much more conservative and religious) I was never racist or sexist and I never put up with those who were. I mean Caucasian people are what 10% of world population don’t save up the hate people.

I worked on my high school yearbook. Someone should have brought this to someone’s attention BEFORE it was printed. You’re looking at probably $30k+ lost before the reprint.
