      My guess is that it’s a combination of things for these HBCU presidents.

      They’re used to doing this kind of pandering. It doesn’t cost the university any money to let Cornyn speak, and if it keeps a Republican senator from aggressively attacking any federal dollars you get ...

      The same is true for these White House visits. I’d be shocked if we couldn’t find plenty of examples of Dubya ‘43 meeting with HBCU administrators as well.

      In a different era with a less charged atmosphere, with fewer students interested in activism and fewer media outlets interested in covering those students, this is just one of those palm greasing things they were used to doing.

    As a TSU alum, good for them. Also, as a TSU alum, why was he invited in the first place? It’s not like Texas politicians ever really cared or showed love to TSU. How many times has there been talks about making TSU a University of Houston Annex? Or people wondering why it was still existing?
