    As The Nation notes, black women make up 44 percent of women in jails, and nearly a third of women in jail nationwide have serious mental-health issues.

    Related: There are a number of women in jail who purposefully VOP and won’t have a bail paid because it costs too much money and resources to remain on probation when you do get out. I’ve talked to a few ranging from ages 23-62 who would rather do 30 days-6 months and leave jail without contingencies.
