Just a friendly reminder that the US military has stricter rules on when a soldier can and can not fire than our police.

And Mader is a vet who was deployed to Afghanistan before he became a cop. Coincidence? I think not. He’s obviously a person who took all his training to heart and tried to apply it so he could protect and serve.

Once you go against the grain, the Police will do everything in their power to tarnish your reputation. Good on him for trying to deescalate the situation and not shooting first and lying later.

Claims He was Fired for Not Shooting at Suspect

Mader was fired for “conduct unbecoming an officer”

i guess most of us in this country define unbecoming somewhat differently than the powers that be.

“As a Marine vet that served in Afghanistan and as an active member of the National Guard, all my training told me he was not a threat to others or me. I was just doing my job.”

This single sentence speaks volumes about policing in the US. The fact that a cop used his military training rather than his peace officer training in a non violent situation to come to a non deadly conclusion is worrisome and sad. It really is telling when military training makes more sense at home than police training.

I change my mind about rehiring this fool. He insists there was nothing racially motivated about why the other officers opened fire on a call about a suicide, instead of you know ordering him to drop his weapon and giving Mader a chance to explain why he wasn’t shooting. At the end of the day Mader might not be one of the ones that will just immediately open fire because he sees a black man with a gun, but he’ll sure make excuses for the ones who did. It’s a step up from the usual deadly racist cops, but it’s not enough. IMO.

He’s out of order? The guy that isn’t out here killing folks, and responds to a call about helping out a suicidal person by NOT doing the job for them? That’s who is out of order? The officer that shot that man should be jailed, the Sheriff needs to be kicked out, and this man needs to be rehired. Fucking lunatics.

There’s no systemic problem with policing in the US. You can’t hold the entire profession accountable for a few bad apples.

Wait, he is in trouble because he didn’t shoot? How am I supposed to make that fit the narrative?!

I see a name likes this “Stephen Mader” associated with W Va and this is all that comes to mind.
