I hope the kids take over and shut the campus down until he is shown the door. I know it’s the end of the semester, but there’s always summer classes in a week.

    Note from grays: @Juben

Betsy and this principal were disrespectful to the student body by attempting to ruin their graduation by having her as speaker, despite the wishes of the students. Graduation is NOT The place for divisive political speakers, it is supposed to be celebrating the students. And that means knowing your student body, and showing them a good time. They had the entirety of these student’s careers to make them listen to opposing view points. These students tried to stop her from speaking period, but the student body was disrespected by not having their wishes heard for their own graduation ceremony.

So they peacefully protested. And miss me with that old lady bullshit. If she’s young enough to run the education system, she’s young enough to catch them boos and listen to the displeasure of the students she serves.

      Exactly!

All this talk about respecting the speakers and none whatsoever about respecting the students who did not want this woman at their celebration.

“We support you and we will continue supporting you.” 1. You and Trump haven’t done jack “supporting” anyone. Any support or systems in place were there before you bought your seat in government as if it was an Ebay auction. 2. Trump just made a statement during one of his scribbling on paper ceremonies suggesting that government funds for black colleges may be unconstitutional.

I saw the video. When the President said that their degrees could be mailed to them if the behavior continued, I just wished a bunch of them would have walked out. The fact that his ass is standing up there being complacent in the bullshit and letting her speak at the graduation speaks volumes about him and the direction he wants to take the school in. He should heed his own advice of choosing which way he wants to go.

I shared the Deadspin version of this article on Facebook a little bit ago. I’ve had to defend the booing and anti-DeVos sentiment to a cop who I know voted for 45, but didn’t seem to grasp why this is what Becky deserved. He wasn’t combative per se, but definitely talked about “divisive rhetoric” and “giving her a chance”.

No. I proceeded to rationally explain the whole shebang to him and he at least seemed open to understanding, but definitely still didn’t approve of the booing.

    I just don’t get it. I’m tired.

I don’t understand why they would have chosen her to give the speech to begin with. I don’t know why any school would have her on for a speech... what noteworthy or inspiring thing has she done to warrant such a honor? Throw in her commentary and this is an especially absurd thing for an HBCU to do

But at the same time, I still can’t say I approve of it. It’s an incredible amount of ammunition given to a highly disingenuous and deceptive enemy, IMO.

BCU’s trustees should be asking for Edison Jackson’s resignation after this debacle.

Probably did it under the guise of “unity” or “giving her a chance”, especially after that tacky photo-op with 45. Jackson probably felt like he was repaying a favor or something. Clown ass.

Why do so many school administrators think that graduations are supposed to be about their personal politics, instead of, you know, the students? If the student body don’t want someone to speak, then that person shouldn’t speak, barring the usual suspects for discriminatory reasons such as religion. It’s THEIR moment, not YOURS. Jesus.

You want to promote “free speech,” on campus by inviting them to speak? FINE! DO IT! But NOT at graduation! That is supposed to be about celebrating THE STUDENTS!

I am having a real cognitive dissonance moment right now. Besty DeVos has conflated “school choice” with de facto and de jure segregation and the president of an HBCU (named after a champion of education for Black people) is caping for her. WHATDAFUQ?
