“I cried a lot when reading this script, but that final scene was pretty straightforward [and didn’t call for a breakdown]. But when the cameras started rolling, those tears just happened. It’s what I felt in that moment for Reggie and myself,” Richardson said.

Man, this scene was so real. So traumatic. So unnerving. So....scary. Everything about Richardson’s performance was stunning. All the praise.

That scene was so very raw. As I watched, so very slowly, I started to tear. Not full on cry, but you know those tears that just fall because “you” truly understand. So much love for this show.

Dear White People is an amazing show, and this episode especially sold it for me.

(but seriously, did Reggie and Sam hook up? Like, its heavily implied, but by the end of the season I’m still not sure).

They hooked up and Sam lied to Gabe about it.

I’m shipping Reggie and Joelle though

I think they ‘hooked up’, but I don’t think they had sex. I’m guessing it was a lot of heavy petting, and that’s about it.

Sorry, but this episode of Dear White People is nothing like what happened to Jordan Edwards, an unimaginable tragedy and loss for his family. Here a character gets offended because a white guy sings along with a song recorded by a black artist who freely uses the “n” word in the song. Seriously, it is ridiculous that blacks have decided that the word is appropriate for them to use, but off limits for whites because of black history. Ridiculous. Who exactly made up that rule? Diddy? Fiddy? Models of society? The word should never be used, by anyone. As is the case with many incidents involving police, blacks expect to be respected regardless of their conduct, and react to the lack of respect from their ego and often it doesn’t end well. Again, nothing like Jordan Edwards and you all do a disrespect to him, his memory, his family by trying to compare every incident where blacks are disrespected by police to this. Like Dr. Wayne Dyer, yes a white guy, said, “If you look for ways to be offended, you will always be successful.” If you don’t want to be praised for your athletic talents, don’t play sports and then complain that you are working for the master. If you recall, in the 40's you weren’t allowed to play sports and that wasn’t right. Stop trying to be a victim in every situation—the African guy was exactly right...all you do is complain, and it isn’t really working for you. Believe it or not, race relations is 2 way street.

You just explained why it’s not ridiculous. As Reggie said in the show:

Reggie: “I mean, how would you feel if I started rapping to songs, you know, that say “honky” and “cracker”?

White kid: “I wouldn’t care at all!”

Reggie: “Exactly. That’s the difference; the fact that you don’t care and I do”

It’s about respect. Also, WHY do white people want to use this word so desperately?

“It’s also a vehicle to do something good in this world. And I know it sounds cliché, but good will always prevail,” he said.

This show and this whole victim generation is one big cliche.

I love Reg and Sam and everyone. And Barry Jenkins. Just awesome. This episode was super upsetting and real.

When I first saw the movie, I liked it but immediately said that it would be better as a TV show. The characters need that extra time :)

This show is very good. I think I saw an earlier article here that mentioned how the black women are just delivering ever line and killing every scene. True! Each episode, I think, is it’s own little world even though each is connected to the overall theme, etc.

All of it is good and love that older black woman/younger black man side-piece thing. I hope season two gives us a black mother’s viewpoint on some/any of these topics they cover. Richardson’s mother’s view would be great since t is black women leading the BLM movement/responses to cops murdering blacks.

In any case, I love it all.

This show could have been a bit better, IMO. Some of the cultural references were a little forced.

But, the dude Marques can act his a** off.

I’m looking forward to the 2nd season.
