Isn’t he from Newark? Where did he grow up that people loved and respected the police? The city literally had riots over racial profiling. Such an odd comment to make.

He got rich. Same with Dr. Ben Carson. It’s an old story.

Don’t Sheriff Departments have fitness standards?

(Yes I did just make a fat joke about Shaq. I don’t care if it’s cheap and lazy and that I am fat right now too.)

Said it before and I’ll say it again, money deceives the black mind. Not sure O’Neal even falls in this category, though, as he’s never really had a “mind” to begin with.

Can’t stand this new black coonery.

the article would have done better without insinuating that Shaquille is “stupid.” This is a gent that received his PhD and not the honorary kind.

Black people wouldn’t be killed by police if the police respected Black people. How is that done? The police should simply treat Black people the same way they treat white people - which is what they are supposed to be doing anyway.

Shaq, like Barkley, is the consummate assimilator! They know NOTHING about what the people go through in our communities!

And yes, I get the idea of the black person who wants to be different and turn the force around so that they alone can change the impression of cops, but, yeah, good luck with that.

Recent applicant here. This is not all the way accurate for me, though I do admit some have that exact thought process.

I’m going into LE because I run towards danger, not away from it; I have an innate desire to help people, but not to a firefighter level. I’m aiming to be a homicide detective, not be on the streets my entire career. Additionally, I may be that one thing to come between a young, black man or woman, approached by an officer with bad intentions.
Trust; I’ve been a variation of admin support for 20 years and this is a re-invention I can handle...
