We can’t even trust these fuckers to use the guns that they use in person and we’re supposed to trust them to be able to use a remote device responsibly?

As Rarely Sober Insomniac said earlier this is going to allow the cops to put more distance between themselves and the people they kill and they already don’t see us as actually fully human.

The police cannot be trusted to use the force they’ve already been allowed to use they don’t need, and more importantly, we don’t need them to be given any more ways to inflict their callous sadism onto the rest of us.

the drones would not be used to harm citizens, but protect them

Ultimate B.S.: So how would you protect citizens? Oh, by harming other citizens. So that first thing you said is a blatant lie.

And if you think that your drone will take police drone out in some hypothetical city battle, think again. Meet Eddie — 1st Police Service Eagle, trained to spot rogue drones & perform mid-air takedowns.

We can see how responsibily the military uses armed drones. And they’re supposedly well trained for that task. Anyone remember the Ordinance Disposal Robot that was used to carry a brick of hi-ex and blew up a suspect that was trapped and couldn’t cause harm? That gives an idea of how these would be used: You’re alone, afraid, trapped. They keep on telling you to drop a weapon you don’t have, and they’re ready to blow you to kingdom come. You have your hands up. Then out of no where a blinding pain... then nothing. What you don’t know is that the police didn’t have a good shot at you, or felt that the area was too exposed to try to arrest you. So instead... they send in a drone to shoot you until you stop moving. No threat, no trial, no need for cuffs or anything but a corner’s truck. A little creative paperwork, and your death is just one of many “unexplained” homicides the public isn’t cleared to know about. A line item somewhere between bullets and tires on the expense sheet.

is knockout gas an actual thing? just use that instead of bombs.

or make little drones with cameras on them and robot spider legs and scare the perp into surrendering. simple. and awesome.

i get most of my ideas from movies.

That shit can kill people. Drugs used to knock people out have to be calibrated to them you can’t just disperse it willy nilly. That’s why all but two of the hostages at the Moscow theater in 2002 died due to reaction to the opiate-based drugs the cops idiotically pumped into the theater rather than any actions of the hostage takers.

In ten years every traffic stop will be accompanied by a weaponized drone swarm.

What kind of hardcore criminals are in Connecticut that would require ARMED DRONES.

Did someone cut their lawn wrong? Did they not trim back the hedge on the public side? Is there even crime in Connecticut other than sexual harrassment, hiring immigrants and holding their passports in a safe so they work for $5 an hour as live in slaves, or maybe its embezzlement?

and WTF is with the second “C”? How many damn “c’s” does this state need to spell the name of a state not big enough to even notice you’ve driven through on your way to somewhere interesting?

I swear this country gets less rational every single day.

Let’s militarizee the police, they said. What could go wrong, they said.

“No one is looking for law enforcement to arm drones for offensive purposes,” said Farmington Police Chief Paul Melanson.

police are 88% dudes, so im pretty sure at least like a quarter of all officers think that its a pretty awesome idea. totally badass brah.

Yeah, great, this seems like a good plan. A paramilitary force that treats minorities as dangerous and lesser creatures is now going to be able to put even further distance from the act of killing.

Scary black guy? Flip a switch, black guy problem solved.

This isn’t a hot take, I know that most of the Root are going to be standing on the soapbox with me, but what in the actual fuck? So many minorities and poor people are going to die to these goddamn things just because it is going to be “less risky” (read: easier) to use them.

Especially once they push through legal language that allows them to conceal the drone camera footage from the public for the “public’s safety.”
