Damn. So she basically said “We’ll only treat them if their condition worsens”? What if it’s too late? Has that ever happened?

Hep-C is disastrous on so many levels... So, a good friend of mine who is lawyer in a major city, was in a car accident and suffered kidney failure as a result. He needa a transplant and when I caught up with him, he was still on the waiting list. So, I said to him, “I hate to be crude, but so many young men are dying in the streets due to gang violence, I hope doctors are asking their families to harvest their organs, assuming they’re not contaminated with drugs, etc... it may give hope to patients needing transplants.”

He commented that he had a similar hope but so many of these young men have Hep-C from getting tattooed, and many don’t even know it, but it renders their organs essentially useless.

I mean, damn. Dead at 18, 19 anyway, and just a waste of life all around.

Are prisoners not covered under Obama care? They are still citizens. Or is Hep C treatment not covered under Obama care? This seems medieval to me - not treating someone just bc it is expensive. But then I’m Canadian so socialized medicine and pharmacare is the only sane option.

Just because a person is in prison it does not mean they should not have healthcare...... I find it comical that some people care more for their pet’store life than a human’s life...

I work for a specialty pharmacy that dispenses Hep-C meds, and the main drugs used to fight Hep-C normally don’t work well and usually make the patient extremely ill due to all the side affects. There is a repeating cost to the meds because those meds such as Sovaldi don’t cure, only treat. There is a medication called Harvoni which does cure Hep-C in about 95% or more of patients that get it, and it’s really good with less side affects and total cure. It’s extremely expensive, but the cost up front outways the long term care cost. Prisons should look into this as a treatment for Hep-C patients. It cures and cut costs dramatically.
