I just want to say that whenever Christians want to justify their horrible worldviews, they always quote either the Old Testament or a letter written by Paul... never Jesus.

    Just sayin

EXACTLY. They also ignore all of Leviticus that applies to them. Including this little ditty from Exodus 23:9 “Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt.”

Or the fever dream of Revelations, written some 70 years after Christ’s supposed existence by a guy who never met him.

“republican to use the hot biblical” It’s pure insanity that politicians are using any religious text as a basis for their legislation or governance. You are hired to take tax dollars and put them to the best use for your citizens, not slavishly adhere to how people that lived thousands of years ago may or may not have ruled.

The Bible is a Rorschach test. You can see in it whatever you want to: justify slavery, prohibit slavery, can eat shellfish, can’t eat shellfish, etc.

The point of the test is what it reveals about you.... and cutting SNAP because ‘God told you to’ just reveals you are selfish, heartless ass.

Honestly, justifying slavery wouldn’t even be that hard. It’s so acceptable in the bible that there are rules for how much you owe the owner if you beat an enslaved person to death, prorated by how long s/he lingers before dying. The fact that they got deep into rules means that the morality was unquestioned.

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Well if those hipocrits really believe, they will have some big time when their time comes. Best option maybe Purgatory, but i think some might just fall through.

Funny, even as an atheist, i have more compassion than those guys.

Yes, if there is one thing we can be sure it’s that Jesus would want us to gut food for the poor and needy and spend a lot more on the military...

I think that every American, Republican or Democrat wants to help the needy among us.

Funny, Republicans don’t seem to have made that an issue in any measurable or overt way.

Maybe these fatcat politicians should actually try to apply for SNAP and see what it’s like. If you have a job, be prepared for an invasive IRS-level audit. If you don’t, you still get audited, and when you get the benefits, you’re forced into a job-training “program” that goes nowhere fast. Not to mention if you live in some cities, like San Diego, always be ready for surprise home inspections, even when you’re not home.

Isaiah 55:1 - Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Deuteronomy 15:11 - For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

Psalms 37:14 - The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation (re: rational and educated - my personal fav).

Psalms 41:1 - (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

Proverbs 14:31 - He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.

And on and on and on and on...Fuck a cherry-picking, heartless hypocrite.

GTFOH. I don’t even have to address the gross misuse of the scripture to point out the holes in this cretin’s completely disingenuous argument.

Why these people seem to be under the impression that collecting government benefits allows people to live lives of luxury so high on the hog that the average person never wants to work again is so far beyond me! Rich white men LOVE to paint a picture of the poor that makes them seem entitled and lazy. When no one is as entitled as rich white men! Corporate welfare is perfectly fine and “stimulates the economy.” But poor people with food stamps? We just can’t allow their lazy asses to lie around on the taxes we refuse to pay.

Time would be better spent making sure these free market companies pay employees a living wage, creating jobs for unskilled laborers, and providing people with job training so they won’t have to depend on programs like SNAP than this BS. Disgusting.
