When to shoot someone: when they begin to raise a weapon in your direction.

When not to shoot someone: when you don’t know what they are doing, why they are doing it, if they are deaf, they have their back to you, and present no IMMINENT threat.

Either she is lying and her racial bias exaggerated the threat in her mind because he was black, or she is not lying and has no idea how to evaluate an imminent threat from a person regardless of color. Either way, she has no right carry a firearm; certainly not as a police officer.

Nope. It is after they have discharged a weapon. They must shoot first.

I know this is controversial, but there is a mountain of cases where cops have genuinely- and I mean genuinely - thought that a suspect had a weapon and was bringing it to bear and they discharged their weapon only to find out the supposed weapon the suspect had was something innocent. The most infamous of these incidents was in the UK when a man named Harry Stanley was killed by cops due to them thinking he had a weapon and him actually carrying a wooden table leg wrapped in a plastic bag. They thought he was bringing a weapon to bear, but witnesses said he was trying to show them he wasn’t armed.

Two big conclusions were drawn from that incident. The first was its not a threat until you’ve been fired upon. The second was that cops, even in America, should not shout to a suspect to drop their weapon but to drop what is in their hands. This is because if you shout to someone to drop a weapon and what they are holding is not a weapon (a table leg, a length of pipe, a toy gun, their own phone, etc) then the human instinct is to try point the object at the cops to try and show them it isn’t a weapon.

If you have cops on a hair trigger, and ordered to shoot at what looks to be a weapon being pointed at them, and their orders only make sense to someone who actually is armed but not to people who are not, that is when you get bad shoots. As dangerous as it is for cops, they have to let the suspect shoot first to confirm it is a weapon and they are prepared to use it. It is dangerous for the cops, but it is also part of what they signed up for. To take extra risk in order to protect the public. And sometimes what they are protecting the public from is police mistakes.

This is how our military operates (when they’re not drone striking). They have to be first fired upon to shoot back, and they can only “reply” with equal force.

“I’m feeling that his intent is to do me harm, and I keep thinking, ‘Don’t do this. Please don’t do this. Don’t make this happen,’”

But why would she feel his intent was to do her harm? This is where race ( or ethnicity, I don’t like saying nor do I believe there is such a thing as race with Humans) comes into play. Had that been a White man this would have gone down differently. But she felt she was going to be harmed because of his skin color.

And that’s the problem with police in this country, the lethal option is always the first and only option depending on who you are of course. Even a simple traffic stop can turn deadly by just reaching for your registration. Some White people I’ve talked too are honestly oblivious to this and don’t know how it really is because of course they don’t have to go through what we go through with cops. Others are aware but don’t care because Blacks are beneath them or all Blacks are criminals to them. Its why we saw a sudden outpouring of support for the law enforcement community even though innocent people were essentially being murdered by the very people that are supposed to “protect and serve”.

Circumstances where you would talk on 60 minutes while on trial for murder:

      1. You are dumb as fuck

      2. Your lawyer is dumb as fuck

      3. You are supremely convinced that you will not be convicted because “Black guy”

      4. All of the above.

None of what happens makes any sense. Mr Crutcher was having car trouble. Why would you be worried about being attacked by a man having car trouble?

Okay, but why have you imputed this intent on to him. We know that it was not, because he was a broken down motorist, so there isn’t anything that he ACTUALLY did that should have made you feel like he was going to harm you, because we know that he was not trying to harm you. You INTERPRETED his neutral—if not plaintive—conduct as a “threat.” And you did so b/c he was a “bad looking dude”—or whatever terms they used to describe him to that effect when they first encountered him. That is what we call, “racism.” So, please go somewhere else with your lies and perceived victimization. I am made they gave her an uncontested platform to spew this ridiculousness.
