While I’m pleasantly surprised by the announcement, it forces me to wonder, if the number of missing black and Latinx youths, particularly girls, hasn’t increased in recent years, why, then, spend additional government money, District dollars, on what is only perceived to be a problem but isn’t?

Because its in the news which requires token attention.

The forum—livestreamed by Ward 8 D.C. City Council Member Trayon White—showed one important detail: The audience was all black, save for a police officer or news-outlet representative.

The census report for Ward 8.

Let’s go out on a limb say everyone has run away from home. What has that got to do with the price of tea in China? Isn’t part of the police department’s job to look for runaways (and all other missing persons)? I am not understanding why the police seem to think that’s some kind of “get out of investigation free” card?

Most kids don’t run away from home for no reason. Why don’t they deserve to be searched for and have social services do due diligence in investigating their homes?

And who doesn’t know runaways are prime targets for human traffickers? Regardless of the reason why these girls are not at home, they’re still in danger!

Meanwhile, those Relisha Rudd recommended stories are my signal to tip on out. I can’t deal w/the fact that after all this time that baby... Everyone who should’ve protected her and cared for her failed her. And that’s the case for far too many black girls.

So according to the police all of the 2017 missing girls left voluntarily. Unfortunately at that age they are seen as prey, by so many bad actors, They case of the cop pimping out missing kids.. a mess. Teens runaway for a lot of reasons and unfortunately it seems that they don’t get investigated (deemed critical)  if they are under 17. Beyond having 24/7 crisis hotlines, school counselors or something like boys town(residential schools for at risk youth), I am not sure what can be done..

You know, when an actual news organization finds out that it reported a falsehood, it apologizes and publically dissects how it failed to find the truth and what it will do to prevent future cases. It doesn’t lash out and insist that its point still stands even if the evidence had collapsed, and it certainly doesn’t act like it and its cause are the real victims.

This is why, when Hulk successfully sued Gawker, everyone’s response to the question of what this means for journalists was “we’ll tell you when it actually affects one.”

At least you’re doing better than Jez, though, as you’re not acting like the concept of retractions is a conspiracy by The Patriarchy.
