CNN is good at breaking news first. Sunday news shows with Tapper, Stelter and Zakaria are very good. Thats it.

Part of that is due to their “take tweets from randos and treat them as gospel” style. Made trying to follow the Marathon bombing...interesting.

    NOTES FROM THE GRAYS:

    Ted Koppel is a joke.

Nah, he isn’t. See? I can talk out of my ass with absolutely no attempt at reasoning, too!

CNN and the mainstream media are the arm of the DMV

Yep. So if you’re ever denied a driver’s license? Blame Jake Tapper.

and have been for year Republican win in spite of them.

    Is this English?

VENTING WARNING: I really, really hate this fucker. With a level of hatred I usually reserve for people who have done me an egregious disservice. If the dude ended up homeless, being pissed on in the street, I’d be angry that the piss wasn’t on fire.

Hannity? I hate his faux macho yelling and faux intellectualism. Someone needs to tell him he can be a journalist or a jackass, and shoot him if he slips.

Never been a fan of opinion/pundit-led shows. It always struck me as essentially paying someone to read for you.

Rush, Hannity, Carlson, etc., can die in a fucking fire. Mike Savage, he of “Liberalism Is A Disease” fame, pisses me off for deflecting any true criticism of the left (and, yes, there is valid criticism to be had) toward an overall criticism of compassion. Maddow I cannot stand due to her delivery and nigh-inexhaustible reservoir of smug. Oliver I dig due to his semi-exhaustive research process and actual even-handedness.

Nine times out of 10, though, I’ll read a few takes on a given issue and call it a day. I like to put my own work in.

Unfortunately, they need viewers to make money, and in this day and age, the way to get people’s limited attention, they have to go there extreme opinion route. NPR is probably the closest media outlet that presents the facts. It’s up to the viewer to actually dig and do the work to find the truth, which is harder everyday. I don’t see it getting better anytime soon.

As far as the Angels Rye/ Bigot Walsh exchange?

I actually watched part of it. It was fucked up that CNN had it (wtf did anyone expect having a non-apologetic racist on?), but kudos to her for stating (more than once before I changed it) “I won’t talk to a bigot”. Praraphrasing maybe.

Simply chasing after old Fox News watchers isn’t going to cut it.

This reminded me of the Chuck Schumer quote and I’m still flabbergasted, why the hell is this a demographic you’re fighting for?!

It is so much easier getting viewers if you just reinforce what they already think. Factual based news and editorials that counter one’s prejudices are a much harder sell and usually only appeal to an educated and informed audience. Fox and their ilk have made an easy business decision.

Arceneaux is making the mistake of mixing up the definitions between “fair” and “objective” with “impartial.” What he and Koppel and Brokaw and other fans of “real news” want is impartiality - that is someone who just presents the “news” without adding their own emotions or opinions to it. That’s what EDITORIALS are supposed to be for. And if you watched “The Daily Show” or the “Colbert Report” the difference between those shows (and Shepard Smith’s on FOX) is that they DREW A LINE BETWEEN FACTS (simple reportage of an event or situation or whatever and letting viewers make their own decisions about it; meaning THINK FOR THEMSELVES) and EDITORIALIZING (interpreting the news FOR viewers and TELLING THEM HOW THEY SHOULD THINK AND FEEL ABOUT IT.) It’s FAIR to give BOTH SIDES a CHANCE to STATE THEIR OPINIONS but that’s not OBJECTIVITY and it’s DEFINITELY NOT IMPARTIALITY (not feeling one way or another about the news or an issue or a subject or topic.) You guys want GOOD OLD FASHIONED DEBATES where two sides FIGHT WITH FACTS and let QUALIFIED & CERTIFIED JUDGES DECIDE WHO WINS. But if the JUDGES HAVE A VESTED INTEREST in one side winning and the other side losing then where’s their IMPARTIALITY? And is you’re BUILDING a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN ALT-RIGHT MOVEMENT like Rupert Murdoch, Roger Ailes, and their ARAB PARTNER have done what you WANT and NEED are PARTISANS not IMPARTIAL OBSERVERS...
