    I love the way her works look against the blue background of the wall in the talking head interview segments. So much more effective than when shown installed in that stark white gallery space.

      It would have been really eye catching if she had gone with a red background. With that shade of blue that she uses, a red background would have made her paintings just glow. Think like this Rothko painting;

    I was into this until she went on her “I don’t believe in starving artists/there are no /true/ barriers to entry” spiel, at which point I was just like - jeez, that’s some privilege. I know plenty of hard working, brilliant artists who never made it big, who struggle to make rent and pay their bills even with a day job, or who live with nothing because they’re devoting every scrap of their energy to making great art. If you’re not able bodied or any number of other circumstances apply to you, life as an artist can be a real struggle, and you may never catch the attention of the formal art world. I know enough people who’ve made it big to know that this attitude can creep up on you - you want to take ownership of your accomplishments, but it’s sometimes hard to do that without seeing people who aren’t where you are as not having worked hard enough, when in reality so many different factors have to align for a person to have a shot at success. Yuck. Maybe a lot was cut out of this interview and it sounds worse out of context, or maybe I’m just missing something, but it totally undermined her message, for me.
