Fascinating, well researched and well written article. Morehouse is indeed a national treasure and it is a shame that Chairman Davidson has let his ego get in the way of a prosperous future for the institution he loves so dearly.

I love the comparison of a deacon board fighting with their pastor and congregations. I’ve seen some holy and sanctified folk show their ass for power.

It would seem that stupidity and power go hand in hand at many organizations. You don’t need to be intelligent to run things, you need to be confident. I would posit that intelligence is often a hindrance to gaining power.

Sad to know that this sort of thing happens everywhere.

Thank you so much for bringing attention to this crisis. Morehouse means so much to us here in Atlanta. I work with a relative of the ousted president who is heartbroken over this. We need Morehouse; we need Spelman. They have always been more or less synonymous to the Ivy League for those of us familiar with them. (As in, when you learn someone graduated from one of them, you’re immediately impressed.)

Early on in your article, you cited Spike Lee, Samuel L. Jackson, Julian Bond, Saul Williams, David Satcher, Edwin Moses and Bill Nunn as Morehouse products.

One would think they might have some type of influence (be it media or financial) or willingness to shine a brighter light on what you have already outlined.

Or are they aware and don’t want to be bothered?

    Fascinating story. Thanks for sharing.

You would think some high profile alumni would get involved. That would make a story in itself.

Samuel L. Jackson would be a terrific board member, but it sounds like he might not want shzt to do with MH...

The issue is not money, it is leadership. What is the tenue of the board?

Black America is neither African nor European. Created out of a strange combination of necessity, inequality and ingenuity, it has its own distinct identity and origin story. Point Comfort is black America’s Plymouth Rock, and it landed on us a full year before the Pilgrims landed on the Wampanoag Nation. Sullivan Island is black America’s Ellis Island, where shackled human chattel was dragged from Africa into a new world. Martin and Malcolm are this parallel nation’s Jefferson and Adams.

That’s a goddamn brilliant paragraph and we’re all better off for having read it and that goes for the entire piece.
