Our democratic process itself was attacked and harmed, and all Americans should be concerned

More than once, but not all the attacks came from outside the country. The DNC attacked the democratic process as well. They chose their candidate years in advance, and the primaries were just a show.

Just ask people to name two democratic primary candidates from 2016 not named Clinton or Sanders. None of them even made it to New Hampshire. For republicans, off the top of my head I can name Rubio, Cruz, Bush, Kasich, Carson, Fiorina...for the democrats, I remember O’malley. And that’s it. I paid attention too...the vast majority of people don’t. I’m sure if I looked it up I’d be like “oh yeah...him,” but those ‘candidates’ were chosen to be forgettable. They were supposed to disappear into the background and give Clinton her spotlight.

The last time the democratic primary had a ‘chosen one’ was Al Gore. The results were identical.

Seriously. All that’s demonstrated by asserting “The Russians” turned the election is emphasizing just how weak Clinton was. A strong candidate could’ve brushed off those allegations.

We elected a communist, socialist Kenyan Muslim -twice- for cryin out loud.

Was the guy that reminisced about killing Vietnamese a Dem? I feel like he was at a Dem debate.

Well, I can see the Bernie Bros are out in force.

Let me say this again: Bernie Sanders Did Not Have A Chance In Hell Of Winning. Bernie Sanders is not even a good legislator.

Bernie lost to Hillary by more votes than Trump did.

      Several points:

I’ll see your Mother Jones analysis and raise you Washington Post analysis: https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverything/wp/2016/11/10/hillary-clinton-lost-bernie-sanders-could-have-won/

      https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/11/13/of-course-bernie-sanders-could-have-beaten-donald-trump/

A large portion of Trump voters didn’t vote for Trump, they voted against Hillary Clinton who was the most disliked democratic nominee in history.

As to legislative record, all I heard through the primary season from Hillary supporters is that they shared a 93% voting record in congress. The thing is, just about every time their votes differed, Sanders was on the right side of the issue and Clinton was on the wrong side of it. From Iraq, to the Patriot Act, to pipelines. Sanders’ votes were proven correct by history.

Finally, the entirety of Hillary Clinton’s primary lead (plus some) came from states that gave Clinton 0 electoral college votes in the general election. Basically, whoever wins Texas in the democratic primary will not become president: In 2000, Al Gore wins Texas and lost the general. In 2004, John Kerry won Texas and lost the general. In 2008, Hillary Clinton won Texas, but lost the primary and Obama ended up winning the general. In 2016, Clinton won Texas again and lost the general.

      Illustration for article titled

That is a fundamental problem with the democratic primaries that everyone ignores. What wins red states in the primaries is exactly what loses general election. Centrist candidates who represent the status quo.

Bottom line Bernie lost the Democratic primaries because he thought he could win without the minority vote. Fair enough. 2016 proved that in the generals you can run that strategy however you cannot win the Democratic primaries without black women. Period.

I really admired her for a long time. Still do in many ways because she had to work hard as hell to get to her many positions. Props to her for her work and contributions. And... she fucking jumped the shark tank with HRC and that question fuckery. She was on the side of the establishment and with her pal Debbie they rigged the hell out of that shit for HRC. Bernie could have won, Hilary could have won... but my biggest question has always been:

Why after 8 years of a young charismatic black man..did the dem establishment rebound with an old white man and an old white woman? That to me is what doomed the fuck out of the dems and even now many of the same folk who dreamed up and manipulated that shit are still running things for the dems.

Because they don’t want anyone else to be in charge, even if they can do the job better.

    She regrets she got caught.

I doubt, judging by the words she herself has written, that she understands that what she did was wrong or that she has any remorse about it.

Aaaand Debbie Wasserman Schultz should have been seeing to Shelby v. Holder and the fallout therefrom:

And NO, I’m not going to stop harping on that till it’s handled.

      From your second link,

“The tactics of those initiatives include sharing Hillary Clinton’s 1996 “super predator” comments with black voters via Facebook, and sending residents of Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood critical messaging about the Clinton Foundation’s efforts in Haiti. According to the same official, such tactics “will dramatically affect [Clinton’s] ability to turn these people out.”

So telling voters the truth about Hillary is considered voter suppression?

Sadly, that seems to be the only thing corrupt politicians of any flavor regret. Trump and the current GOP now have a new wrinkle — deny you’ve been caught — which will probably work as long as both the White House and both houses of Congress remain controlled by the GOP. Republicans, after all, don’t want to relive the Nixon embarrassment of ejecting their own, even though in the case of Trump/Pence they certainly should.

By trying to force a corrupt corporatist candidate down our throats, in combination with their electoral incompetence, democrats are substantially accountable for the fiasco that wound up in the White House. But it’s a corrupt, corporatist party, so what else could they do?

If blaming Jill Stein doesn’t work, blame the Russians. When that doesn’t work, what the hell, blame the ghost of Richard Nixon. Or Mickey Mouse. Or anybody but themselves.

Two unacceptable candidates were vomited up by each of the respective parties, as usual. They are jointly complicit in stripping the country not only of democracy, but of rationality.

If you want your country back, start by getting rid of BOTH democrat and republican parties. Or continue to get two candidates, one only slightly less unacceptable than the other, but both unacceptable nonetheless.

If independents want to start winning they need to start looking beyond coffee shops in gentrified neighborhoods and Marxism 101 to broaden their base.

That’s for confirming the pattern that anyone who begins a rant with “corporatist” can usually be safely ignored.

This third party fallacy of the middle bullshit is just childish.
