I see your point, but if crazy uncle is threatening to set the house on fire, and has the means to do it, I don’t think you can just ignore it. I’m not sure what the solution here is since, from what I’ve read, while China doesn’t like the idea of a nuclear North Korea, it has resigned itself to it. At the same time (per the NYT), their relationship is at it’s lowest point in the post-war period and NK is actually kind of pissed at China at the moment.

I agree. North Korea has been crazy for quite some time. My worry is that coming off aggressive against a country who wants nothing more than to use a show of force agains the U.S. is the wrong play here. I agree we can’t ignore it, but maybe we can fake play nice a little longer.

Sure, I’m not at all suggesting that Trump’s approach is correct. But I’m also not sure Tillerson is wrong re ā€œstrategic patienceā€ since I’m not sure what options are left if we don’t have China holding carrots and/or sticks in front of NK. We still have an obligation to our ally who shares a border with this nutjob. Meaning that if I’m South Korean, I think it’s fair to want some kind of reassurance from the US that it has my back, which is what it sounds like Tillerson was trying to do—maybe that’s too charitable an interpretation; I don’t know. Unless we feel like it’s OK to just walk away from South Korea, we’re kind of stuck here. In spite of the things we don’t like about China, I think they’re the ones we should be playing nice with, as I think some kind of partnership with them (even if it’s a hush hush, back door agreement between diplomats) is going to be necessary, given that I don’t think China is super enthusiastic about the idea of nuclear war.

Maybe this is Trumps attempt to Wag the Dog. Though I have to imagine China was none to happy about our SECSTATE talking all spicy and shit about how the US will throw hands at North Korea.

Oh, no sir. I have rejected TrumPutin’s America. One Mr. Barack Hussein Obama II is my president over in the shadow government. Y’all have fun, though. I might be able to make a happy hour or cookout with enough notice.

Bannon actually wants an Asian conflict. He wants Vietnam 2.0 to erase what he sees as America’s failure first time around. He is a 100% madman with an unhealthy fixation on blood and glory.Ā

All that talking tough must have given Tillerson the vapors since he couldn’t sit down with some of the allied delegates due to fatigue.

Let’s also recall that the north Koreans only restarted their nuclear weapons program in earnest after the Cheney/Bush administration decided to poke that particular hornets nest.

Lets face it, the Iraq invasion proved that if they didn’t have WMDs then they would be an easy mark. That is the lesson every Dictator in every crazy part of the world took away from that. Just like every megacorp realized in the wake of the economic crash that they had to get bigger and shakier so they could claim too-big-to-fail status, every tyrant in every dictatorship realized they flat out needed real WMDs. The only real dissenter was Libya where Qaddafi handed his over in return for assurances no western country would try to overthrow him and they would trade with him freely. Yeah, that worked out well for him.

Dennis Miller referred to the Iraq War as a ā€œshoot your cuffsā€ war. Essentially posturing to scare the Axis of Evil (the original Axis. Not Trump’s cabinet) by showing them how tough we were. I am terrified that our foreign policy is being run like a 5th grade bully, except this bully throws American lives into a meat grinder needlessly for appearances.

Why are we threatening North Korea? Have you seen Trump’s proposed US budget? The one where he wants to get rid of all the stuff that helps citizens - and instead focuses on diplomatic/economic isolation and warfare?

Ā We have to go to war with North Korea because ā€œ~THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!~ā€

Why not to fuck with crazy uncle North Korea:

They would happily go up in flames if they could take out South Korea and Japan in the process. Why? Cuz they’re fucking crazy!

Trumpcare and his budget have been such hits nationally that he decided to finish the trilogy by going to war against an unstable nuclear power.

Double Bonus Points if he issues a third version of his travel ban to include literally anyone who looks remotely Korean. (Yes, in Trump’s world this would include China, Japan, Vietnam, Hawaii, etc etc etc etc)
