I would say this is good but me being a pessimistic human, this is just one out of a million in this country.

Yep, jails by nature are full of secrets. Sadly, nobody wants to know them.

Also, given all the individuals who have died needlessly because of what has gone on in these jails under his watch, it is a shame that he is deemed a “nonviolent” felon, and whatever penalty he receives will be far, far less than what he deserves.

Because he is a nonviolent felon, Baca will remain free until his sentencing hearing.

Whoever was the holdout is a God Damn hero. Good for them for not bowing to the fools who wanted to acquit. And good for this jury for not letting the fact that he was a cop sway them from doing what was right.

I read an article in Slate this AM where the new sheriff wants to send the names of 300 deputies to the DA who have been guilty of abuse: faking evidence, lying under oath, unnecessary force, etc.. But the police union (of course) has petitioned the court system to block the action using some part of the “Blue Shield” laws.

So, there are only a few bad apples, but fuck you if you try to get those bad apples out of the batch. Police unions are the fucking worst.

So this was effectively a criminal organization.

Because he is a nonviolent felon, Baca will remain free until his sentencing hearing.

He is a dangerous felon who sent his goons to intimidate and threaten an FBI agent, among other things. People have been sent to jail for lesser charges.

Free until sentencing and suffering from Alzheimer’s?

Who knows... maybe he’ll kill himself to avoid years of suffering and dying as a convicted felon.

DOJ authorized a retrial when it was 11-1 for acquittal the first go ‘round? That is extremely rare. Props to the holdout in the first trial and whoever greenlit the retrial, probably Loretta Lynch.
