It’s way tooooo smart.
I think that stands for most of the things he’s done in his life. I’m sure he gives the final go-ahead but I am positive that he is funneled advice from everyone around him on why it’s a good idea. He’s not given any indication that he, on his own, is smart. In interviews when he could easily give an intelligent answer to a routine question, he failed. FFS, the “great businessman” didn’t even know what a blind trust was (“Well, my sons are going to take care of it and it’s going to be over there and I won’t see it....” NO, DUMBASS!). If he DID know what a blind trust was, how is not giving the definition a “smart business move,” particularly when anyone who didn’t know could easily look it up.
So yeah, while I believe this move was calculated, he wasn’t doing all the calculating by himself.

Folks are underestimating Trump’s intelligence. I think the gent is incredibly intelligent and that’s the very reason why he’d leak 2005's returns. It’s probably the only year that he’s paid such a substantial sum in taxes and it shows that his gross was rather impressive. There’s no downside to releasing that single year and silencing his detractors. Also, Maddow fumbled the roll out and the story became why didn’t she release it sooner instead of why doesn’t Trump release all years.

1 - The leaked copy had “Client Copy” stamped on it
2 - Melania became a citizen in 2006. In order for her to become a citizen she had to show her previous 5 years of tax returns or her previous 3 if she was married. So she would have to show 2003 (single) 2004 (single) 2005 (married) which would include this return.
So Trump would need to make sure his 2005 return was clean because it was going to be looked at for her citizenship. Which also makes it the most likely candidate to be “leaked”.
