Like Maya Angelou wrote, “The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.” Rep. King is making it easy. The terrifying thing is that his loud-and-proud bigotry may not be enough to hurt his re-election chances. Might even get him more donors.

Especially since Iowa was once considered a progressive state (they went for Obama twice). Now they’ve got King, Joni “Cut off their nuts” Ernst and voted for Trump. Gone are the days...

We need to call Maxine Waters to give him the “boy, you better sit down and shut up” side-eye.

I’m currently reading “A long walk to freedom”, the autobiography of Nelson Mandela. While a fine and inspiring read, I also find it incredibly depressing that the discarded ideas of Apartheid seem to be making a big comeback these days.

Steve “seperate but equal” King would have fit right in with the politicians of the National Party, who ruled South Africa for fifty years straight.

Two rich old white men sitting in expensive leather armchairs with a Playmobil toy model of “the wall” on the desk, discussing how to keep poor brown people out of “their” country - I’ve yet to see a more succinct quintessence of the Republican Party in one picture.

Oh, and he keeps the confederate battle flag on his desk for good measure.

The worst part (it’s all the worst, tbh) is his grandchild he’s holding and certainly teaching his white supremacy to.

Yeah, it’s surprising that so many are shocked that  old ‘isms don’t die, but multiply.

He sounds like a person who hates people because of their race (not calling him a racist, because we don’t do that here!)

That’s great, because if there’s two things American conservatives hate, it’s being labeled a racist, and minorities.

      Are they walking away?

When that one Democrat said sexist shit about Kellyanne Conway the party spoke up. Have you heard a peep out of anyone of merit within GOP leadership?

The only GOPer I heard comment was that one Cuban guy. Which impressed me if only for the fact that I’m surprised he said anything at all

Wherever the English language went, freedom went with it.

So Jamaica was free? W. Africa was free? India was free? The Philippines were free? The Indigenous of the Americas were free?

This sort of whitewashing is very dangerous and it often presses together disparate situations in an effort to revise history. It’s like Canadians who pretend that by inviting Mandela to speak to Canadian schoolchildren, Canada’s involvement in Apartheid was nil. What many seem to have forgotten is that the Apartheid regime used the Canadian Indian Act as the legal foundation for many of the horrible aspects of Apartheid (from ID cards to Bantustans, “black homelands” which received legal recognition as “independent black nations” from the Apartheid regime).

Yes, long live Western civilization and the English language.

He’s a racist. Boom. Done. And what’s more there is, unfortunately, a movement now trending on the alt-right websites to de-stigmatize the term “racist.” “It’s a virtue, not an insult. Next time some liberal calls you a racist, say ‘Thank you. I am not insulted by that. You just complimented me.’” Ugh. Call your representative today and urge your congressperson to censure Rep. King. http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ to find your rep.

It’s as though you can’t even use dogwhistles without being labeled a bigot nowadays! Harumph, I say!

Fuck this guy, and the rest of his ilk. May they all go sterile and never reproduce.

This is what Trump has done to our country.

There have always been bigots. But they have been driven increasingly underground.

His win has emboldened bigots and given a false sheen of legitimacy to their hateful and/or ignorant viewpoints.
