He was always going to fall in line from an outward facing perspective. Having the House, Senate and a President from his own party gives him a meaningful chance to pass legislation he might want.

The real tale of the Ryan Trump relationship is going to be found in how much he gives up his very vocal fiscal conservatism in service to Trump’s decidedly NOT fiscally conservative agenda as he crafts legislation.

Given Trump’s overall level of incompetence, it’s not clear to me he could even really tell if Ryan was undermining his agenda.

While I have no doubt Ryan is a spineless coward, even a spineless coward might have the guts to try and subvert a complete nincompoop.

Yeah. It’s not surprising that any one of those dickbags will just do whatever thing their Republican president does. What is going to be interesting (and hopefully, their downfall) is how they compromise their conservatism and fuck over their own people. I don’t have any faith that Republican voters will come around to Democrats - what I’m hoping for is that they feel that their values were betrayed and it pierces the party.

I don’t know the outcome of it, and it could certainly be very grim, but even though they’re in power, the Republicans are still fractured and still having the identity crisis we have all been witnessing. The election doesn’t invalidate that.

Yeah, I’m not delusional enough to think most of the people who vote for Trump are willing to switch, but if a few do, and a few more stay home, along with stronger turnout on the part of everyone else ... there’s a lot of leverage in even a relatively small shifts in the vote, as we were all painfully reminded of last November.

They do share that GOP love of taking money from the poor and giving it to the rich though.

I have to wonder what private conversations between them are like. Trumputin doesn’t seem one to just...get over this shit.

May they all torture each other to death.

Unrelated (well kinda related): I was just thinking our best bet for the monumental task of getting Congressional Republicans on board for impeachment would be hoping they are just fucking sick of being mired in controversy and their every move being watched. (a girl can dream huh?)

While I get that audio sells in today’s sound-bite based world, didn’t Ryan already say as much during the campaign?

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/10/politics/paul-ryan-said-he-wont-defend-donald-trump/

This just comes off as Bannon recognizing Ryan is in a position of political weakness and jumping on the opportunity to cut the legs out from under him.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Trump leverages this opportunity to try and knock Ryan out as Speaker to install someone far more loyal to him to cover his ass now that Russian investigations are at least trying to heat up.
