What is even more disturbing for me is that that picture with “Mary Brown” has the drawing smiling. SMDH.

Because a child made it and said child doesn’t understand the gravity of the historical assignment. Likely saw it more like a fun art project.

That’s not the fault of the child, of course. That’s the fault of the educators who are doing a piss poor job teaching kids about slavery.

My mother was able to teach me about slavery. At a young age, I understood how horrible and oppressive slavery was for my ancestors and the impact of slavery on myself generations later. And she was able to do that without any lessons involving colorful drawings of wanted posters. Imagine that!

That’s what I getting at but I did piss poor job of conveying it. Like, what were the teachers telling these kids? Also, the descriptors seem very odd. Something tells me this school isn’t a very diverse one.

On my way out I’d like to add that I’m glad Corey Booker is their Senator, and quite frankly I hope he kicks the administration’s collective butts up ‘round their shoulder blades.

The Superintendent John Ramos shouldn’t be in charge of a school.

The job is *well* above his capabilities if he thought (and of course still thinks) that this was a good exercise for kids.

“Having reflected on the concerns shared with us, we have decided to remove the slave-auction posters from South Mountain hallways” he says in an official statement.

    He should be fired.

At some point.. those who create, deliver, approve, assign, and grade these type of assstupid assignments should be fired and prevented from ever, EVER working with kids again in any capacity.

As much as America insists on sugar coating slavery, in about 75 years id be surprised if it’s not just referred to as a migration. They’re slowly building that narrative, and the farther we get from it, the easier it is for them to replace the facts with something easier to swallow. It’ll jus be one line in the textbooks “black people traveled here on ships, and they weren’t paid a living wage at first”
