Unfortunately, even if this video was released earlier, it wouldn’t change anything. He was painted as a threat by the police and thats the narrative people chose to believe.

That’s not necessarily true. The family and friends/supporters would have likely liked an additional means to push back on this ‘black thug gangster mugger’ narrative that hung over them as they buried him.

It’s also hard to say how this tape from a legal perspective, would have affected the case, the prosecutor(s) legal/political career(s), and local politics.

and thats the narrative people chose to believe.

The “people” in your sentence are overwhelmingly BlueLivesMatter folks or more simply put, bigots.

This is not surprising sadly, hate to be bleak and on my Fyodor Dostoyevsky shit this morning, it seems the people who protect the police aren’t in the public interest AT ALL and an entity within itself. This is what they do to hide their crimes(cities, police force, DAs) from us. Often times they’re the first to get their hands on footage and tamper it too their liking to fit their narrative. as another commentator said; it doesn’t matter at this point most have already did the mental gymnastics to try to justify our broken system in America. Mostly cause the truth is the most painful feeling to bare.

Seems to meet that covering up the death of brown people isn’t just a police thing, but an American thing. If you have the tims to read this Angela you should read this too a lot to finish; the raid in Yemen was a dark turning point for America: https://theintercept.com/2017/03/09/women-and-children-in-yemeni-village-recall-horror-of-trumps-highly-successful-seal-raid/?comments=1#comments

President Obama dropped 26.000 bombs on the heads of brown people in 2016 - which actually makes him the least belliciose American President since Jimmy Carter.

Trump has already dropped that many bombs since his inauguration.

How many Americans even know that their country’s foreign policy has killed between 20 to 30 million people after the end of World War II, which exceeds the foreign death toll of the Nazi regime, the Soviet Union and every colonial empire? How many give a shit?

The only casualty of that Yemen raid everyone bemoans is a white man - Navy SEAL Ryan Owens - not the 30 Yemeni civilians who were at the wrong place at the wrong time, including one toddler.

This “war on terror” of the United States is so successful that it has increased the number of Islamic terrorists from 3.000 in the year 2000 to over 30.000 today, an increase of over a thousand percent. What pisses me off the most is that America forced us down that rabbit hole with them, we who’ve never had any issues with the Muslim world before and who must now literally weekly fend off islamist terrorist plots because they hate us as much as they hate you. Us Europeans unfortunately aren’t isolated from the Islamic world by two large oceans, like the United States are.

If there was a party in my country that would put the disengagement from the American empire on the ballots, I’d vote for it in a heartbeat.

In that regard, disbanding NATO was one of the few smart proposals Donald Trump has ever made, though the deep state will never allow that to happen. There are still a lot of brown people left to bomb to justify the existance of this military-industrial complex for decades to come.

I’d like a source for your stats of deaths caused by US foreign policy since WWII. Not because I question your honesty, or doubt that it’s possible, I’d just like some evidence that it is. I do have a problem with your assertion that Europe didn’t have an issue with the Muslim world before the US ratcheted up its aggression against Islam. There is a long history of Europe’s conflict with Islam. Recent history does illustrate Europe’s greater acceptance of other cultures as compared to the US - especially since 9/11, but Europe can’t be characterized as not having an anti-Islam bias.

sad, the police in the united states aren’t interested in facts, they’re interested in self preservation.

I always thought that the released tape looked more like an argument or disagreement than a “strong arm” robbery. The store manager didn’t even call the cops to report anything, a customer did.

I already knew this. They just used it to drag his character and make it seem like: ‘hey this guy was a pos so he deserved to die’, narrative they always do when shit looks bad.

I agree the video is irrelevant in the sense that even if Brown had committed strong arm robbery he didn’t deserve to be shot dead in the street. What’s relevant to evaluating Wilson’s behavior is that he heard a report of theft of cigarillos at a convenience store, saw two suspects and managed to escalate the situation until one of those suspects, an unarmed man, was dead. I don’t care if later evidence revealed that Michael Brown was a serial killer, a system and society in which Wilson’s behavior is accepted as reasonable is a system and society that is completely fucked up.

And I realize I’m misapplying the legal standard here, but you could never convince me beyond a reasonable doubt that an (unarmed!) 18 year old black man who’d recently smoked pot would stop running and decide to charge at a police officer who’d already shot him once. That’s some high on PCP/paranoid schizophrenic shit right there.
