“Walt Disney”? Isn’t it known he was sexist, anti-semitic and racist? “The school is privately owned” - and now it becomes evident why DeVos will be a disaster. Private schools can do whatever they want, with little oversight, just like our system has been rigged so private companies can fire you for any reason they want.

I’m kind of curious to know that teacher’s justification for including Walt Disney, tbh.

The school declined to respond to WSBTV’s inquiries about the situation, telling the news station that the police would handle it. The sheriff’s office was involved, according to the news station.

Why the fuck are the police handling a simple school expulsion?

More importantly, why an expulsion in the first place.. A parent raises a legitimate question which could have been answered directly and handled by adults. But it looks like the school wants to follow trump’s lead and ANYTHING that smacks questions is responded to “my way or the high way”.

Lovely.. But its the mindset and rational I have come to expect from the US. SOOO glad I am not there.

news flash Abraham Lincoln freed black people.

    1. That’s up for debate. 2. See number 1! 3. Amazing what reductionist and revisionist history does (but not really).

It seems from your comments you’re trying way too hard to miss the point.

“It really is a slap in the face. It didn’t sit well with me,” Molden told the news station. “We learn about everyone else’s history 11 months out of the year. We have one month.”

This line doesn’t really sit well with me and hurts her argument, especially considering the display apparently featured multiple prominent black historical figures.

This isn’t “their” vs “our” history, lady. ALL of these figures mentioned, both black and white, had DIRECT effect on the history of this entire country and everybody in it, regardless of race. I guarantee you that the legacies of George Washington and George Washington Carver BOTH have had long-lasting impacts on you as much as me.

And last I checked, they don’t teach about black historical figures for only one month per year, that’s just a special month dedicated to honoring them. They still teach kids about them throughout the year...

Actually, they pretty much do only teach about black historical figures for one month. Yes, Martin Luther King, Jr. gets one day in January. George Washington Carver may get a mention at some other time. Rosa Parks may get a mention. But, seriously, the entire reason for Black History Month is that they ARE ignored for the rest of the year.

Maybe in whatever shit school you went to. I distinctly recall learning about them whenever they were relevant at the point in history we happened to be studying, regardless of whether or not it was Black History month.

However, if what you’re saying truly is the case in her circumstance, then perhaps she should be thinking of the bigger picture and fighting for equal education across the board and not settling for a shitty display cabinet in a hallway.

And what I said still stands - using the “our history vs their history” argument is still a terrible stance. It’s all of our history. Fight for everyone to learn about it all at all times, not only during stupid arbitrary timeframes.

And this sort of shit is what it looks like BEFORE DeVoss starts proactively running our education system. As a GA parent putting a kid in preschool very soon I’m horrified by all of this. If I’m going to have to teach them facts and history at home anyway I may as well home school so I at least don’t have to undo indoctrination as well.

Wow! If that teacher addressss a parent like that, I’m sure he or she speaks to the children that way as well! Really sad and totally unnecessary!

“but is a state-funded lottery pre-K, which does accept subsidies from the state’s child care and parent services program.”

That school should be investigated or lose state funding if they cannot provide a legitimate reason why the student was removed.
