The thing that gets me is that he was considered too racist IN THE 1980s to be a Federal judge. That’s some next-level racism compared with today.

Or maybe it isn’t anymore? I need a beer.

As Samantha Bee pointed out, 1986 was the year in which a beloved, “teen classic” film feature an Asian character named “Long Duck Dong,” and in which the entire premise of Soul Man was that Thomas C Howell spent almost the entire fucking movie in blackface, and Jeffrey Beauregard Sessions was a bridge too far for goddamn Republicans even then.

His middle name is BEAUREGARD?!?! I shouldn’t even be surprised at this point that he’s named after a Confederate general (and, by all accounts, a totally incompetent one at that).

Support all of that, but they have been there all along and couldn’t stop Trump getting elected, couldn’t even cause the lawsuits during and after the election to cause a stumble.

      He plays dirty, they won’t.

How would a civil liberties agency stop or influence an election? They’re there to watch elected officials and make sure they obey the law, not serve as campaigners for one side or another. They’re not a partisan organization.

He plays dirty, they take him to court. As they did with the Muslim ban.

“There should be no question,” Mr. Grassley said, “that he is more than qualified to be the nation’s top law enforcement officer.”

well, when you put it that way, i guess he really is.

The Senate just nominated someone who went behind their backs to draft an executive order that may be unconstitutional, brilliant.

Some things to bid a fond farewell to...

Voting rights especially if you are poor, black and live in the South. There are several kinds of government identification funny how down south they are trying to limit those to the kind the poor don’t tend to not have or reduce the number of venues and times for folks to get said ID’s. Look for the cases in NC and TX to die a quick death.

Be prepared for deportations and the curtailment legal immigration since the attorney general can overturn any precedent decision by designating it for review, granting them power to change immigration policy.

Consent decrees and justice reform despite the Civil Rights Division investigations of police department uncovering clear cases of racist behavior by police officers in cities such as Baltimore, Cleveland, and Chicago Sessions made it clear that he saw the role of the feds as interference rather than reform.

Your personal data, Sessions wants in! He has supported allowing law enforcement wide range to access that data for “surveillance purposes”.

Pot. Don’t be surprised if the feds start pushing back on Colorado and Washington in order to deter California’s new law, which does not go into effect until 2018.

Monique, I don’t think you should ever refer to this man as anything other than Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III.

It’s a ridiculous name, and all the more so because it venerates two anti-American traitors: Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederate States of America, and PGT Beauregard, the CSA general who started the Civil War by attacking Fort Sumter.

He can’t be held to account for his racist forebears, who were so committed to the cause of white supremacy that they kept reusing this name, but he should be mocked and called out for his own racist speech and actions. He’s unfit to serve in government.

I’m a teacher, which means that the Betsy DeVos confirmation should have (personally) hurt more, I suppose, but it didn’t. This hurts way more. I knew he would be confirmed, but seeing it come across my screen gutted me. I read Coretta’s words today, and I cried. Every day this week has been hell.

Stop calling him “Jeff.” It normalizes him. His name is Jefferson Beauregard Sessions the Third. Foghorn Leghorn incarnate.

If DeVos can get confirmed, anyone can.

They could have nominated Lucifer himself to head up the Department of Not Being Satan and he’d have been confirmed.
