Just imagine if people posted stuff like #bankwhite and the like. Or if Chase decided to partner with the Klan. No difference in any of this. Why does EVERYTHING revolve around race?

Until society acts and responds in a fashion that VALUES black lives, we will continue to have and need this movement. No where in history have white lives ever NOT mattered in mainstream America. It’s time to share the wealth. Black men and women have, from the founding of this country through TODAY, been sacrificed, discriminated against, in every level of society from education to housing, from employment to banking. Show me where that has ever happened to whites? Normally, I don’t like to educate the close/narrow-minded posters here, but I hope this helps you better understand that for people of color — we are judged EVERY SINGLE DAY ON RACE. We have to embrace it and so do you. It’s the white privilege thing that makes you think we MAKE it about race. We don’t; it just is, but when you walk through life PRIVILEGED you don’t see that.

You think the vast majority of Americans don’t already bank white?

When people of all races are truly treated equally in this country, then things won’t revolve around race. Until then...

I hope more information is shared later because I am not moved to bank somewhere because of what my credit card looks like. Not interested in art but what can you do for my money? How will the bank deposits be invested and will my funds be protected. The oldest black bank in the country, I believe, just shuttered its doors in Chicago — Seaway Bank. OneUnited needs to provide comfort to depositors that it knows what its doing....who cares what the card looks like.

Agreed. I checked Wikipedia and this looks garbage. You can’t pay your credit card online??

Beginning November 1, 2014, OneUnited removed online and over-the-phone credit card balance pay services. Bank branches that currently provide these services over-the-counter are only located in the metropolitan areas of Boston, Miami, and Los Angeles. Sending a check by mail is the current defacto payment method for Unity Credit Card holders who reside long distances from bank branches.

That’s borderline ridiculous (in a business sense). If OneUnited wants to be taken seriously, it needs to offer competitive services and features.

And if it can’t do that, better to stay under the national radar and just be a local - or at best regional - black bank.

And therein lies the real tale of why a “Bank Black / Buy Black” type of economic movement won’t succeed - there aren’t any really competitive broad-based viable black alternatives for many services and features (grocery store chains, cellphone providers, banking services, mortgage lenders, etc.).

And you know where the real indictment lies? It lies at the feet of all those blacks with the real millions already who could invest and try to jumpstart some black-owned businesses with actual clout. You know, all of those rap stars, movie stars, pro athlete stars who get paid millions of dollars per year. Do you see them investing any of those millions into any black economic ventures? Or is it all going for giant mansions, lavish lifestyles, blowout parties, and 22" gold-plated rims?
