I understand that 92% of folks that consider themselves African American (i.e. not Sage Steele & Stacy Dash) voted for candidates not named Donald Trump. What I haven’t seen reported is what percentage of voting eligible African Americans voted... so if 92% of 20% voted that’s not something to brag about but if 92% of 50% voted then that is. I’ve searched NYTimes (fake news!) with no success for this info and also our voting participation in comparison to the larger electorate.

While it takes time to get full turnout statistics with demographic slices, overall, voter turnout was pretty close to on par with 2012.

The last few Presidential elections turnout of the black vote has been near 70%, though that may not necessarily be a reasonable comparison, seeing as in 2004, black turnout was ~60%.

I don’t know that it would have declined to 60%, that seems unlikely given that turnout overall didn’t decline that much.

Reading about how Carson took Trump to various urban communities and how Trump found residents to be “incredible people” reminds me of the reaction Bill O’Reilly had when he had dinner with Al Sharpton at Sylvia’s in Harlem. You can tell how out of touch he was with dealing with ordinary black people when he talked about how amazed he was that it wasn’t the loud, raucous people he expected to be surrounded by. I suspect it was the same these Carson tours.

I tend to think the Carson to HUD appointment was moreso a combination of him wanting to appoint a black man to his cabinet so he could say he appointed a black man to his cabinet and HUD being one of the few positions he didn’t already have someone he wanted to insert in order to fulfill key parts of his agenda.

No, its as simple as the department has the word “urban” in it, and “urban” means black people. That’s why he appointed a black person to it.

I mean, maybe, though in truth I’m not quite sure why anyone is so certain about much of anything when it comes to why Trump does much of anything.

I, too, know zero black people who have been shot. I know at least four white people who have been shot. For real. (Either by themselves or fellow white people, fwiw.)
