I think you mean underground lairs, not “layers”...

Hamster underground layers are either ... like, geological formations that hamsters caused or maybe ... maybe it’s a fossil fuel type that is formed by applying large amounts of pressure and heat to layers of hamsters?

The hamster I had when I was little ate her kids on a regular basis, no matter what else she ate. Had a different hamster who never did. Maybe some hamsters are just assholes.

Yeah. I thought hamsters who ate their young were just called hamsters.

      “Cannibal Hamsters” seems redundant.

Ancient Mexicans solved the pellagra problem of corn for us humans. It’s called nixtamalization. Gotta love MASA!

I thought hamsters were inherently cannibalistic and ate their young? Granted, this is based on observations of a small sample size (n=4), and it is quite possible that the experimental group consisted entirely of asshole hamsters.

They do it when they’re stressed and almost never in the wild

I thought this too and it seems it’s effectively the same thing. I worked closely with all kinds of small animals, in pet stores, and while their diet was lab blocks which included corn in the ingredients, all of the different small mammals ate the same thing and lived in the same stressful conditions (unfortunately). Hamsters were the only ones eating each other. Every freaking day I had to clean up bloody bone and fur carcasses. And it wasn’t just the young being eaten, it was whoever was around. And I can’t stress enough how often it was.

Corn may be a catalyst for hamsters, but I can only imagine it’s because they are already prone to this, not that corn can turn any animal into a cannibal. And that is basically the same thing as saying hamsters shouldn’t be domestic, because they are prone to being nasty cannibals and horrible pets, which you and I already knew and should be common knowledge by now.

So is European corn going to contain B3 in it to prevent cannibalistic hamsters?

The EU will find a way to make it, and make it mandatory. So the hamsters can’t go on killing sprees.
