You may notice that “urinate on it” is not one of the steps. In case you weren’t aware, that’s because that doesn’t actually work and may actually make it worse.

Fuck the ocean. Too many things trying to eat your ass or fuck you up (like this).

You could say that about the entire planet. “Mother Earth” does not want us here.

True. But the ocean seems worser than the land.

If you’re stung in a central New Jersey river or bay, it might be worth getting it checked at a hospital. There’s a clinging jelly that’s already hospitalized one, can cause kidney failure if left untreated.

A non-native species, raise your hand if you’re surprised.

Make sure it is a jelly, portuguese man o’ war’s sting sort of like Jellys, but are not treated the same way.

I’m curious, how are they treated? The nematocyst cells behave the same way by nature, I’m curious how different they are now.

Off the top of my head, I remember treating the stingers is very similar, but there was something about not using vinegar on it. It has been a few years since I was stung, and I’ll tell you that a PMOW sting hurts worse than any jelly that I have ever been stung.

I once got stung on the insides of both my thighs... little bastard swam through my legs, and stung the crap out of me when I went to turn around. Another 8 inches up and I’d have really been in trouble.

We always kept a bottle of ammonia on the boat. it instantly stops all stings.
