Here's a deer I saw in my front yard when I was at home. It didn't really do anything when I talked to it.

Yikes, guess you didn't say anything the deer found particularly interesting. That's OK. Maybe, for next time, write down a couple questions on index cards ("What are your favorite tastes," "What are your least favorite tastes," "Where do you go when it rains?" etc.) that you can refer to if you get nervous.

Memorize this deer butt identification drawing [I) white-tailed deer, II) mule deer, III) black-tailed deer, IV) elk, V) red deer] so that you can refer to it for the rest of the year as deer continue to leave humans in the dust.

I was at a red light in DC on Christmas Eve about eight years ago. Driving home from my Mom's, it had to be near midnight. I was at the intersection of Macomb and 34th (Cleveland Park area) when twenty plus deer ran down 34th and passed in front of me. It was surreal. No fat man in a red suit though. Plus they ran the light.

I predict ratings for Discovery Channel's Deer Week will be dreadful.

                A Deer Story:

One time my dad took me and my two brothers to Foxwood Casinos for a quick vacation. Now had we been a bit older, this may have been a fun trip, but unfortunately we we were only 13, 13, and 12 years old at the time so we really couldn't play the slot machines or black jack, we mostly just stayed in our hotel room for two weeks. My dad would appear sporadically in the early morning or middle of the night, opening the door and shouting "I just won $55,000!!!!" "I just lost $20,000" "We're up to $36,000 kids!" and then hand us a 20 dollar bill for lunch before he disappeared again. When we eventually left Foxwoods we were all tired, it was the middle of the morning, and there were the four of us crammed into my dad's little red nissan pick up truck that really was only built to hold two. My dad was maybe four beers into the day and driving kind of recklessly trying to get back home. My mom had been yelling, arguing and blowing up his phone for essentially stealing us for two weeks. Me and my two brothers saw the deer standing in the middle of the interstate, we even were like "Heyyy, look deer! d'awwww" our youthful excitement at experiencing nature. My dad did not see the deer, or hear us, and next thing you know, the deer is on the hood of the car it's black little eye just staring at me through the windshield. My dad swerves the truck, the deer goes flying off the hood, and finally a pause. The chaos settles, my brothers and I are left whimpering in the truck as my dad goes out to check on the deer. He comes back and say "It's still alive, we can't leave it in pain hurt like that." So he throws our truck in reverse and runs over the deer again. He ran it over two more times to make sure it was dead and we drove back home. It was the worst vacation ever.

                That's my deer story.

I have so many questions, but I'll narrow it down to two for the sake of time:

                  1) Who the fuck goes to Foxwoods for two weeks? With their kids, no less?

                  2) Are you still in therapy?

Haaa 1) my dad, the most charming man in the world, he can convince anyone about anything, which is a valued skill for a gambling addict, thus Foxwoods 2) I was placed in therapy (kind of against my own wishes) and I never really took to it, so fortunately or unfortunately I'm out now that I'm an adult.

But hey we all have some crazy stuff we deal with eh :)

Habitat and food loss are the main reasons deer leave the woods.

Not because they like me? Or is their dislike of me driving them back to the woods?
