It wouldn't be totally without precedent. Before Perry, before Bush, Texas had this badass governor:

Yes, we are crazy here in Texas, but keep in mind we went from Saint Ann of Richards to Noted Buffoon W. Bush and then Idiot Dunce Perry. So, it wasn't too long ago that a lady democrat was cracking the whip. Also: I live in Houston, where we have an openly gay lady mayor. Just, you know, to show you how diverse this state is.

I'm energized to start volunteering for voter registration and rides, and I'm hoping more of you TX jezzies are, too. The only reason why idiots like Cruz (and Patrick, too, god I hate that motherfucker) get elected is because we have atrocious voter turnouts.

      Ann Richards.

Now that was a governor with some character and class to her.

It's not real love unless it is declared with a neck tattoo, Erin. I'm so glad you understand that. Too many do not.

A neck tattoo is too minor in this case. Full on facial tattoos are what's prescribed here.

She's pretty much my hero. Hopefully those pink/red shoes will become some sort of feminist marker... Like when I see you wearing them on the street we'll exchange a knowing look.

Heartily agreed. That picture up there should be one of the iconic images of feminism this year. Something about her standing alone, everyone in suits, she's in her professional attire...and then those sneakers. It's loads of awesome.

Wendy Davis is my new hero.

    Also a new hero?

    Leticia Van de Putte.

Let's not forget her. She's the one who dropped the mic and kicked off the 15 minute peoples filibuster, after help stalling quite a bit. And she came from her father's funeral to do it.

All I want is Wendy Davis for governor. I volunteer for her campaign. I would stay in this (0ccasionally) backward state for her. I would.

I really wonder if that isn't the best solution; have a shit ton of liberals move to Texas to turn it into a blue state.

After all, Texas is in charge of what goes into our public school textbooks... http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archi...

I make no excuses or the voting record of this state — this headache-inducing, often infuriating state — but we weren't always red. In fact, I believe Obama netted over 40% when the tally finished up in 2012. Not that it was close to a win, but not as far from it as one would expect. I think were the right candidate to run, we might be able to squeak a victory for sanity. God damn I miss Ann Richards.

To say that following Richards with Bush and then Perry was a lesson in soul-shattering disappointment still feels like a bit of an understatement...
