As Stephen Colbert said, you bought Newsweek for a dollar? I got it online yesterday for free. Also... The value, whatever it is, of Newsweek is in the brand. Why would you roll it into the Daily Beast, that doesn't have a brand identity? This sounds like a case for Howie Kurtz.

Newsweek got so bad after Tina Brown took over that I actually cancelled my free subscription.

She used to have genius; I guess she had to give it up as a condition of citizenship in the society she used to mock.

I got the Magazine for free with my NPR donations every year. I liked it, but didn't love it. When she took over, it went down hill. Most of the posts on here were longer than any articles. Eventually, I realized it was not even worth the energy it took to get it out of my mailbox and throw it away.

Me too. The visual I have is a liver-spotted hand poking out of a french cuff reaching again and again for the logo, only to have a voice saying "Do not buy Newsweek ... don't do it ... I said don't ... don't! ... no ..."

You need someone with real motivation and a blinding belief that they alone can turn around the misfortunes of those that came before him, at a bargain price of course.

But what of the investment bankers who stand to make a fatty cut of the final sale proceeds, Nolan? Please; think of the children.

The new layout with that expanding ad that takes up the entire screen is annoying as hell.

I am still baffled at how badly Tina Brown mishandled this magazine. Cover after cover just made me laugh in disbelief, and when's the last time you heard someone say "did you see XYZ's piece/feature in Newsweek?" Even Time can still pull that off now and then.

Every time I see something about awkward print business deals I wonder why our GM decided to bank our overhead on sales to newspapers...
