So basically Roman is saying that contraceptives liberated women sexually, and because it empowers them and gives them sexual agency, there is no more romance ever. All of the romance is dead.

    Tell me more, Roman.

I recently heard a similar thing from my (high school) theology teacher. You see, we're basically dudes with with chest protuberances if we don't have the specter of unwanted pregnancy hovering over us at. all. times.

P.S. If that is your gif, may I use it in future internet arguments?

Seriously. Because you know, when I think of authorities on women and romance the first person that springs to mind is ROMAN FUCKING POLANSKI.

I might be wrong but I think that was purposeful understatement. It works on the assumption that we all know that he's a rapist of a barely teenaged girl who has weaseled his way out of anything like justice and that he's basically awful.

The only thing Polanski should be asked about, when it comes to women's issues, is him raping a 12 year old girl. Justice was NOT served in that case, the least that he could suffer is the shame of being reminded of it over and over again.

I always feel very disappointed when actors I love, i.e. Ewan MacGregor and Kate Winslet, agree to be directed by him. How can anyone with kids work with him? What do other people think?

I agree - another example is Woody Allen. I don't understand how people can look past the fact that they are pedophiles just because they are talented. How do they justify associating/working for a known child molester? Especially if they have children of their own.

But didn't Woody Allen get with Mia Farrow's adopted daughter when she was already an adult? Am I wrong? I know she found nude pictures of her that Allen had taken, but I thought she was already an adult.

Not comfortable with the rape of a child being referred to as a 'patchy sexual history'. Not even a little bit.

my thoughts exactly. Didn't make the "even roman Polanski is sexist" premise any less redundant. Roman Polanski doesn't respect women? I'm so very surprised because usually rapist pedophiles are my go-to for feminist ideals.... Oh I'm sorry, he made some very deep movies! I meant patchy sexual history! if only all the other rapists had cancelled out their own sickening acts with cinematic greatness! Blah!

Polanski wistfully laments the loss of a kinder, gentler time when he could rape young girls in private photo sessions and he didn't half to worry about so many "masculine women" running around cock-blocking him, or something.

But happily he still lives in a time when he can also continue to live in Europe and avoid justice.

So Chris Brown is pretty much satan incarnate for hitting his girlfriend, but Roman Polanski's conviction we're writing off just as a 'patchy sexual history'? Seriously? Why the double standard? Because he's talented? Because he's white? Because his wife was the victim of a terrible crime?

Also because people like his movies. I would agree he has some great movies. None of these things justify any of it though. I would ask anyone who thinks this is even slightly redeeming "who gives a shit? He's a rapist pedophile dirtbag?"

I guess they are no different than the directors of the old schlock featured on MST3K. Watching another movie where the party girl gets killed by a swamp monster, they riffed something along the lines of: "I wonder if any of these directors have a problem with women?"

Nothing is more endearing than an MST3K fan. Unless they are a rapist like roman Polanski.

I doubt he would into MST3K unless Cahiers du Cinéma would publish something calling it a canonical commentary on the art of filmmaking or whatever. Otherwise he seems to take himself and his work as a filmmaker so seriously he might find the whole idea offensive.

I feel like if the New York Times or the Washington Post wrote an article referring to a pedophile rapist as simply someone with a "patchy" history, I'd be reading a Jezebel article shaming them right now.

Can we, as the world, please stop paying attention to what Polanski says? He's an awful person and a convicted rapist. I don't care what kind of talent he has or what kind of tragedy he's had to weather; lots of other people have been through terrible things, and there are many incredibly talented people, who are decent humans and not fucking sex offenders.
