So Matt Taibbi went all the way to Moscow and cofounded the first English language alt paper came back here, blew up huge during the financial crisis as an independent, progressive voice and now he works for Jann Wenner's kid? No justice.

I would rather read the secret codes hidden in my own feces than Rolling Stone.

This may not be such a bad thing. Let's give the guy some room, and a little time. The real question in my mind is how he'll do as boss to a lot of people who may not have worked with someone at his age and life experience. He'll have a lot of steady hands at the mag to give advice, and I'd imagine this is a case where he's unlikely to fail. You never know, he might turn out to be really good at it.

No. Never met the guy. I just don't much care for people dismissing someone just because he got lucky to get the job. Here's the thing: you never really know how good someone is at something until they do it, and there's a learning curve involved in every new thing that someone attempts. You don't have to be world's greatest -=anything=- to end up being good at something. It's not going to be easy for him, and given the comments here, everyone and their brother is all teed up to say the guy is some wastoid loser with too much money and career assistance. That may be true, but I think that even young people deserve to try and fail, and try again and get better — I'd even go as far to say that it's one of the special benefits that young folks get. Is he lucky? Sure. Is he a wastoid that is bound for failure? I think it's too early to tell. I'm easily old enough to be his daddy, and I was a young punk, too, once upon a time, and I thought I knew everything and I failed and learned and got better at stuff. Let's leave him some room and see where he goes, Mmmkay?

Gus Wenner. Peter Doocy. Cinderella stories. Outta nowhere. Former college jagoffs, now, about to become media champions.

There were only so many seats available. Russert and the Trump kids will have to wait for later buses.

Well, a rolling stone gathers no moss. I guess.

Side note, RollingStone.com looks like it was designed by the founder's kid (i.e. like shit).

I think "designed" is a really strong word. Maybe "bought a wordpress template" is what we're looking for.

If you follow the link to his alt-country band, his old bandmate, Scout Willis (Bruce's daughter) has an amazing quote: "I don't really play an instrument—I don't have the technical background that Gus has. But I am very musical and I have an ear for it, but I've never been in a band before."

You see, Millenials? There's hope for each of you yet. Now go join a band with one of Bruce Willis' kids and get adopted by the head of a major publication.

This is how the wold works. It's always so funny to me; I talk about how important personal connections are for getting employed in almost any field, and people always push back. I think it's absolutely rampant.
