People get so mad when a woman (especially an attractive woman) isn't nice or doesn't give them the attention they think they deserve. Seriously. So mad.

It reminds me of the backlash Megan Fox received just because she wouldn't smile and socialized with, what I seem to remember, was mostly men in the crew of one of her movies. Time and time again she's mentioned in interviews she's shy and sort of introverted, but it seems you're not allowed to be that when when you're female (and in her case also attractive, and a sex symbol) You're immediately labeled conceited, or a bitch.

I don't know about that, what was heavily reported on was the fact that she may have shown little regard for Michael Bay and had famous quotes where she took shots at him and his manhood to the point Spielberg called him and said "she's out, immediately!!" This came from her labeling him a Nazi.

There are a ton of cold "bitchy" actors and actresses out there and you rarely ever hear stories from folks on set complaining about them. So I'm forced to believe this instance with her may have been different enough to elicit a harsh response from crew members. Actually here's a funfact: a Transformers crew member wrote a scathing letter about her that was publicized in the media, and the crew member was a woman.

Reminds me of the difference in how the Twilight leads are treated. Everyone HATES Kristen Stewart and treats her as though by being mediocre while acting in a decidedly terrible movie series she has somehow committed the mass murder of an entire art form. Meanwhile, Robert Pattinson is equally bad in the films and openly hostile to the material in interviews, and yet he's treated like a loveable rapscallion. Not. Fair. At. All.

He's not so much "hostile to the material" as going along with the interviewers in saying "hey, it ain't Shakespeare." I think that's the difference.

The difference is, no one hates RPatz for being a terrible actor and kind of an asshole.

    What's with the eyes?

I saw her on Daily Show (only time I've ever seen her as herself) and it was the worst interview on the show, ever.

Maybe not the most scintillating interview, but she smiled the entire time.

      Take that, La Ferla.

Maybe they're trying to not-so-subtly suggest what I have been saying since Mad Men's beginning - that she hit the acting lottery by scoring a role that is essentially her own personality, because she can't act worth a damn. That said, this is a super nasty profile, I agree. (TO THE OFFENDED HATERS I AM ANTICIPATING: If you think she's an awesome actress, fine. I would ask you if you have seen X-Men: First Class. If you have and still think she's awesome, that's cool too. Don't yell at me. I'm too tired for internet fights today.)

Truthfully, though, a lot of actors play characters throughout their careers that are very much like them.

I 100% agree. Some of the best. Tommy Lee Jones has an Oscar (which 12 year old me and current year old me still believe he stole from Leo DiCaprio) for playing himself.

I don't care about her either way (except to be mad at her character in Pirate Radio for breaking Chris O'Dowd's heart) but WHAT is happening with her eye makeup there? Are the Shirt Tales coming back into fashion?

Because no one's told you yet:

PUNK MET BALL GOD HOW DID YOU NOT KNOW ALREADY JEEZ

I guarantee mine will not be the last response. :) Also, I sort of like the eye makeup, in context of the PUNK MET BALL OH MY GOD HOW DID YOU NOT HEAR ABOUT THAT?

Funnily enough, she was so bland in that movie that I didn't even recognize that it WAS her.

Decent movie, but too long and full of itself.

the real reason no Bobby Draper has lasted more than a season is because Jones actually eats them alive

How in the world did I not notice that the actor playing Bobby Draper changed each season?? Sometimes I swear I am the least observant person ever*.

*I challenge anyone who thinks they will steal this title from me, and I have true happened-recently stories to back me up.

I couldn't believe this either but then again, I, like you, am practically blind, deaf, and dumb when it comes to observation. My husband is convinced that I am attracted to him solely because he has the eyes of a hawk and notices literally everything that there ever was to notice about anything and everything in a split second. He thinks it's an evolutionary survival instinct on my part (which I might have to agree with him on considering he has pulled me back from walking into traffic because I'm too engrossed in our conversation). Smart criminals would commit all of their crimes in front of me as I would be the least likely to ever be able to describe one thing about them.

It's odd, but I don't find her bitchy at all. Can't say the same about Vincent K in that Vulture article, however.

The only interview I've seen with her was when she participated in the Drama Actress table. She actually smiled a lot and seemed pretty pleasant, whereas the other actresses just seemed, likeable yes, but also kinda full of themselves.

She must know by now that she doesn't come off very friendly, I like that she's just herself in-spite of the backlash.

I agree, and I was noticing in some clips from Paley Festival and the 92 Y (yeah, I'm a Mad Men obsessive, no regrets) how charming she seemed.

I love January Jones because of this persona everyone always shit-talks. I also am very defensive of Betty. I can sympathize because I know I am a bitch, but not THAT much. Standoffish I am, smile for you I won't unless I feel like it. If you don't like it, oh well, la-dee-dah, tootle-oo. Also, Betty Draper Francis reminds me of my grandmother, she was a miserable woman because she lived in a world wherein opportunities that we more or less take for granted had to be fought for, literally (just to get a job at the bank was a huge fight inducing no-no to my grandfather). My mom tells me she wasn't the warmest, most loving mother (understatement) but, hell, I would've been, too. I hope Betty really busts out this season, in SOME way.

She seems like a lady who grew up in a smallish, Podunk city and never really fit in because she was destined for "bigger" and "better" things. But she probably doesn't really fit in in Hollywood either, because, duh. She's from South Dakota.

Maybe I just like her because I think that I would end up coming across the same way if I left SoDak to go to Hollywood. (Not that I would be as successful. Just, I get it, you know?)

    Whatever January. You do you.

Oh Jesus. There's no difference between Sioux Falls and every other suburb in the country where girls want to be models. She fit in just fine, had plenty of friends, etc. despite her less than stellar personality. South Dakota is not some strange, foreign culture (despite the way J-Jo likes to talk about it in interviews now — another reason I'm not a big fan).

I don't care about any of it, I think she is fantastic. I love Betty Draper, and I think January Jones kicks ass playing Betty Draper. Maybe she is a one-trick pony, I don't give a crap. The pleasure I get from her character, and from the way she plays the character and the way she looks and the way she shot those FUCKING PIGEONS in the backyard with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, my hero.
