In 1998, after Madonna gave birth, she had an album to promote. Michael Musto was the first to leak the title, "Ray of Light," and first single, "Frozen." He also revealed she'd be doing a secret show at a club on Valentine's day '98. My boyfriend at the time, who is now gay (I should have known) went to see her. At midnight, she took the stage mere feet from our face. There she was: Madonna, breathing the same air as we were. For that alone I salute MM. Plus, I remember him from E!'s Gossip Show with Downtown Julie Brown, which went off the air so long ago it barely has an Internet presence.

I remember that show! For a while I took notes and posted summaries on alt.showbiz.gossip

Micheal Musto not at the Village Voice? Come on. He is the Village Voice. Why don't they just shut down the operation?

:( Boo. In other news, can someone please tell me why Michael Musto has a Mr. Mackey situation going on? You know, like stick figure body, no shoulders, and a balloon head? I'm not trying to snark; I genuinely wonder if he's got some sort of condition?

I think the condition is called "Jewish".

When I spotted him looking at curtains in the Chelsea Bed Bath and Beyond, he looked like he was doin' just fine. I wanted to compliment him on his bowtie, but I was way too shy.

I shall also miss Michael Feingold. Hyper-literate and free of casual snark, I guess he was too smart to be employable. Bye bye Village Voice, your work here is done.

I used to work for the Voice's parent company years ago at one of their papers in Miami, FL. They were laying off people then and it was similar. Cutting key creative and business. They did not even have a web editor till 2008 - can someone say marketing myopia.

Robert Sietsema is the man who introduced me to the dollar pizza at 2 Bros on St. Marks. For that I'll always be grateful.

Sad. I was mildly flattered just the other day to be subject of Musto's signature lascivious bicycle-cruise staredown, even though I'm about 8 years removed from my freshman year at NYU. I still got it!

Feingold might've been the last good theater critic left. To think that a town like NYC will have nothing as an educated antidote to Brantley's starstruck adolescent scribbling at the Times is pathetic.

That is a face only employable by the newspaper industry.

The hat looks like it came with the sweater. Kind of like a bonus.
