This is so apt because i just finished a long (wine-fueled) mother's day dinner conversation about gender politics, with my partner, parents, siblings (all late 20's/early 30's) and nephews (7 year old twins). It was my mom and my sister and me who kept bringing the conversation around to our nephews/grandsons, because they were "falling behind" the girls.

But it was my (much older)boyfriend, and dear old dad, who pointed out how much better off those vulnerable boys were with my sister (their mom), myself, and my mom being more educated, opinionated, and with more real mobility than their mothers had ever thought possible. The fact that the women who care for them demand respect, makes an impact on those boys, was their point.

It was an unexpected endorsement of my mother's feminism, from the men in her life, on behalf of the boys in our lives, and I think it was redemeeming for her. I'll be sure to show this to her.

I don't know if I'm super emotional today because my mom (who's my BFF) is on the other side of the country and I'm really missing her today or this just hit me where the feelings are but geez Louise. This made me cry! Yay women! Yay hard working moms! Yay men who appreciate women!
