They are bred in game farms across the U.S. for hunters. This is disgusting.

Delicious or not, why do human beings have to kill and eat everything? We should revel in their beauty and they deserve to be left alone.

Well, it's not an official endangered species (As Gawker notes but the linked article erroneously claims it is), so it's totally above board. People's food politics being based on The Lion King is not really a coherent animal rights strategy.

I ate at this place once. It is actually really good. They have a Personalized Taco. It is pretty much any meat you want with special condiments. However, when you get halfway through the taco, you realize that somehow they have connected your small intestine to the meat and that you are slowly pulling your insides out and ingesting them. It is a great twist and a good taco!

Besides not being the norm, what makes some animals off limits if they are not endangered? We can go out and hunt a rabbit, deer, quail, etc but god forbid if its something not normally eaten here.

Lions may not technically be endangered yet, but they're getting there, and we've already driven many big cat populations (tigers, panthers, leopards) to the brink of extinction. By contrast, there are literally BILLIONS of rabbits in the world. It's not the same thing at all.

I really don't think they go out and hunt wild lions just for this. You know, the ones in captivity aren't good for anything but meat because they can't be reintroduced to the wild.

There's nothing weird about shark, really. Bull nuts are not common but not outrageous, either. Alligator is everywhere around the Gulf Coast and is surprisingly tasty. I mean, you wouldn't expect lizard to taste good, but it does. Rabbit and octopus aren't weird at all. You can get bison almost anywhere. Eating otter and beaver and camel and shit like that is just showing off. And lion? The idea of eating lion strikes me as only a couple steps away from eating one of the stray cats that roam my neighborhood. No thanks.

Aw, man, gator meat tastes amazing. That animal has remained relatively unchanged for millions of years, and I suspect that they all but stopped evolving once they reached the optimal level of deliciousness.

I'm in Tampa and have managed to never hear of this place, but I'll just point out that shark is not exotic. You can buy shark in the supermarket, at least down here you can.

It tastes about as disgusting as you'd think shark might taste, but some snowbirds just love to throw a shark steak on the grill, so there's that.

Isn't shark meat chock full of mercury too? at least, the bigger sharks? Or is it comparable to tuna?

I've always heard it's full of mercury, and it would make sense. I mean, any fish that lives off of other predator fish... ugh. I swear you can taste the heavy-metal contamination when you eat it. Nasty. It definitely tastes dirty in a way that washing wouldn't help.

I've heard from people who ate farmed lion in SA that it tastes awful. Most carnivores do.

Still, I don't quite get all the uproar.
