    I’m sorry, guys. I may not have agreed with some of your decisions or thought you always were on the right side of certain issues, but you really did a ton of excellent work over the years and it shouldn’t have to end like this.

    I hope the best for all of you in your next place of work, even if it’s elsewhere in the former Gawker Empire.

    It’s (mostly) been a real pleasure commenting here.

      Are they? That’s ... a good thing I think. NPR comments had all the trollishness of Gawker, but with more passive aggressiveness and much better spelling and grammar which somehow made it all the more insufferable.

    This is just beyond infuriating. This has been the best blog on the internet over the past decade, Hogan case is still on appeal. This is not justice, by any stretch of the imagination.

    I’ll miss this damn place. Something unique has been lost here that I don’t think will ever be replaced.

      I know. I’m so enraged that the rich guy won his petty revenge game that I can’t begin to articulate it. It’s also a really bad sign for the future of a free press. It doesn’t matter that the judge was corrupt, the jury was a bunch of idiots and that the whole thing is likely to get overturned. Thiel got what he wanted.

      My only consolation is that, despite his best efforts and all his money, someday he’s going to end up in a pine box just like the rest of us. And I think that’s what he most fears. Unlike the rest of us, however, I doubt few will mourn his passing.

    This sucks. I’m really sorry for everyone affected by this. Especially Hamilton Nolan, who could have moved on to other gigs long ago like so many other Gawker writers but, I suspect, knew he had a great — if underpaid — place where his voice could be his and his alone, from hard-hitting economic critiques to zen koans and science updates (a personal favorite).

    My condolences also to Nick, who is watching his baby die, the rest of the writers past and present, and the back-office staff. Good luck, everyone.
