    The Jewish thing is what I find the most shocking. Unless Kushner fils is trying to distance himself from the religion because he’s vying for office and thinks it’s a problem, how can he possibly support Trump’s open flirting with white supremacists, antisemites, and their ilk? I understand a lot of disconnect when it’s family, but that’s a giant fucking chasm, not a quirk you can brush off. Even if Trump’s act is an act, it's a lot to swallow for your aspirations. Isn't being rich enough?

      Reading that was very confusing - the disconnect between the set-up that the speech was emotional and moved people to tears and then the actual premise of what he said was incredible. What exactly was moving about “she’s not Jewish enough for us but she loves my son so we’re fine with it”?

    Why has Jared “sold out” his faith and not Ivanka? There’s something so odd about these people who convert to Judaism or Islam or whatever in order to marry someone. I mean I get it if it’s to get married in the family church or temple or whatever, and if it’s a nice looking church as opposed to the dumps that Americans worship in, but this stuff seems to have crossed the line into crazy. I mean if your partner can’t accept you as you are, why should you convert? Seems like it racist or something to me.

      There are a ton of Jewish people for whom it’s just a no-go if the future non-Jewish spouse won’t convert. People who aren’t even that religious. And then that gets weird because the conversion process is pretty hardcore. In my limited experience, the people who convert actually do really want to practice Judaism and feel an affinity for it. So more power to them, I guess. My mom is Jewish and my dad is Christian (both vaguely atheists though), so my husband’s Jewish family had to begrudgingly accept me— it only counts if it’s your mom, not your dad. Which is funny because I have a very non-Jewish last name, since it comes from my dad. Even my husband, who doesn’t give an actual fuck about religion, probably would not have seriously dated anyone who wasn’t Jewish. Or in my case, Jew-ish. He was just raised that way, like it’s just what you do.

      I loved how this fact was used in the past to show how much he loved his father, and how he had internalized the shame that Christie had put on his family. It definitely was NOT because he was getting business plans and being fed what to do with the family empire.
