What’s hilarious is that Romney, the High Priest of the NeverTrump movement, made this same argument in the lead up to the 2012 election. Romney and Paul Ryan were both believers in the idea that the polls that most of us were using, the ones that showed Obama with an edge and in the lead in key states like Nevada, were skewed. That is, they argued that the polls overstated voter turnout among younger voters and minorities which gave Obama a fictitious lead in all of the mainstream polling. They were encouraged to believe this by a guy named Dean Chambers, who operated a site called UnskewedPolls.com.

Chambers won the adoration of the Romney camp by “unskewing” the polling data; that is, rerunning the numbers with the assumption that there were a lot fewer Democrats and a lot more Republicans. This meant that he was one of the only prominent pollsters that reliably predicted Romney winning the election and sweeping a lot of key battleground states such as Ohio and Virginia (all states that you may recall Obama actually winning).

Romney and his family and supporters bought into the unskewed polls fantasy land so hard that they were allegedly devastated on election night when Obama turned out to win the states that all the polls said he was going to win.

As for Chambers, he of course admitted that he was wrong and that he allowed his political preferences to taint his analysis.
