      Body cam footage will be important and if it was true he was pointing a gun then the story changes. But if we declare that anyone who posts pictures of themselves with guns on social media is prelisted as OK for summary execution the first time they act out then like the whole white south is open season, you realize that right?

      I don’t blame him a bit for this, though. As much as I loathe Walker, this rioting bullshit is getting pretty tiresome. At least they could could pick more original targets to burn down than auto parts stores, beauty shops, gas stations, and dugstores. It’s like Ferguson all over again, and will have the same result: an already poorly-off community even more poorly off.

    Does anyone want to play Sunday night speculation with me?

    When after #BlackLivesMatter came into being and the #AllLivesMatter people started piping up, would it have been more effective for BLM to co-opt the message and subsume it rather than calling it out as racism (which it is 99% of the time)? Would it have worked? Would right-wing nutjobs have had a harder time writing “#AllLivesMatter is terrorists” than they do writing “#BlackLivesMatter is terrorists”?

    Which is to say: is a protest movement more about empowering its proponents or convincing its opponents? Is it possible to strike an even balance between the two?

      Yeah if what they are saying is true then it sounds justified. If you try to suppress the body cam footage or it tells a different story then here comes trouble. Violence is never justified as a response but it’s far easier to understand when the crowd has actually seen what happened and it is unjust, the Chicago video, the South Carolina cop who shot the guy in the back etc. etc. In this case all they knew was that a cop killed someone so let’s go crazy.

The idea of waiting more than 20 minutes for actual details about what happened to come out before deeming the victim to be a harmless innocent/menace to society is apparently heresy to both sides.

      I think your definition is closer to the Alanis Morissette definition of irony. So no, this wouldn’t be ironic. Tragic, yes. And actually, my children are far likelier to be harmed by my own guns than any stolen guns out in the community.

    Based on information thus far, I’m of the opinion that while most recent high profile killings of young black men haven't been justified, this one probably was. The video footage will ultimately confirm or change my opinion though. Hope it's released very soon. Unfortunately I doubt it will change many opinions though.

      The thing is there have been so many cover ups with statements prior to the video being released it is hard to not be very skeptical.

      Remember they insisted the guy in Chicago shot in the street was “clean”, right up until the day they released the video.
